THE REV. JONATHAN S. WEBSTER has been named staff chaplain at Radford Community Hospital. A graduate of James Madison University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., Webster was chaplain resident and staff chaplain at the Cancer Institute of the Baptist Medical Center in Columbia, S.C., for four years.
LAVONDA RENEE FRANKLIN, daughter of Lyndon and Janice Franklin of Shawsville, won first place at the 43rd Annual Debutante Ball in Roanoke. She is a senior at Shawsville High School and will receive a scholarship to attend the college of her choice.
KEVIN DELLINGER, a native of Christiansburg and a student at Radford University, recently won the singer/songwriter award for the second time at the Winterfest National Showcase/Audition, sponsored by Silver Wing Records in Nashville.
SHEILA GALLIMORE of Floyd was a semifinalist in the female vocalist portion of the competition.
TABBY SNIDER of Radford, a previous female vocalist winner in the competition, recorded gospel and country music earlier this month. Dellinger, who performs alternative rock music, will be in the recording studio next month.
ROBERT SMITH of Blacksburg has been awarded a Diamonds certificate by the Gemological Institute of America, in Santa Monica, Calif., after completing a course in diamonds. During the course, Smith learned information about how diamonds are created, distributed and sold.
KAREN L. ROBERTS of Blacksburg has become a certified dental assistant. In her examination, she demonstrated a mastery of a variety of chairside dental procedures and skills, including disease transmission prevention, emergency techniques and radiation safety.
