FRANKLIN COUNTY LAWYER PICKED FOR UVA BOARD

A Franklin County man is among Gov. George Allen's most recent appointees to the University of Virginia's board of visitors.

Allen announced the appointment of T. Keister Greer on Wednesday. Other new appointments to the board were Elizabeth A. Twohy of Virginia Beach and John P. Ackerly III of Richmond. Each will serve a four-year term beginning today.

The governor reappointed Elsie Holland of Richmond to the board. Holland was filling an unexpired term, and will begin a four-year term today.

Greer, who received undergraduate and law degrees from UVa, has practiced law in California and Virginia for 47 years. He was a substitute judge in Franklin County and now has a private practice. He is chairman of the board of the First Virginia Bank of Franklin County, director of First Virginia Banks Inc. and a founding member of the Franklin County Historical Society.

Ackerly is a partner and chairman of general practice for the law firm of Mays & Valentine. Twohy is president and general manager of Capital Concrete Inc. in Norfolk. Holland is a reading specialist for the Richmond school system.
