PULASKI GIRLS BATTLE PAST WOODBRIDGE

Jodie Hallett scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, as Pulaski County edged Woodbridge 46-43 in a Northwestern Region semifinal girls' basketball game Thursday night in Woodbridge.

Pulaski County took a 34-26 lead, but Woodbridge mounted a rally, outscoring the Cougars 16-12 in the second half before succumbing.

Talia Lake led the Vikings with 15 points.

Carrie McConnell scored 12 points for the Cougars, who will visit Cave Spring in the Northwestern Region championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Knights defeated North Stafford 78-51 in the other semifinal Thursday night.

Region IV boys

Gate City 73, Blacksburg 59: In Gate City, Shannon Carter went 20-for-22 from the free-throw line and scored 42 points as Blue Devils downed the Indians in a semifinal game.

Gate City took a 42-27 halftime lead and coasted to victory.

The Blue Devils will face Christiansburg in the championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday at a site to be announced. The Blue Demons defeated Richlands 77-67 in the other Region IV semifinal.

Anthony Wheeler led Blacksburg with 22 points. Mark Hobeika added 11.

MEERACS

Broadfording Christian Academy 73, Gateway Chrsitian 65: In Hagerstown, Md., the Crusaders cut a 21-point deficit to five with 1 minute, 30 seconds to go, but came up short in a first-round matchup with the Lions.

Gateway Christian (12-6) scored 30 points in the fourth quarter, but Broadfording (22-9) hit its free throws to seal the victory on its home court. The Crusaders will play a consolation-bracket game at 3 p.m. today against Victory Christian of Nokesville.

Monty Pence led Gateway with 23 points, Aaron Meadows scored 15 and Ryan Gordon added 14.

Daryl Pope scored 24 points and Tommy Rebuck had 20 for the Lions.
