"He just came in like a regular customer," thumbed through the racks of clothing, picked a tan corduroy suit and went to the dressing room to try it on, said store supervisor Ethel Haygood.
But it wasn't the tan suit he wanted to model for Haygood and the store's female customers.
When he emerged from the dressing room, he was wearing nothing but a long-sleeved T-shirt and a smile.
"He didn't say anything. He just told the ladies hello, made his little round and that was it," said Haygood, who has worked at the store for four years. "In all my years, I've never seen anything like it."
When his show was over, he went back into the dressing room, put his clothes on, handed Haygood the corduroy suit and left.
While the man, who looked like he was in his 40s, was getting dressed, Haygood called the police.
"I wasn't scared, but you never know what they're up to. It was just me and two other ladies in the store," Haygood said.
According to Lt. Jeff Dudley of the Salem police, the man, whom Dudley refused to identify, will be arrested and charged by today.
