The school's governing board Tuesday got to see the trophy won in the March 4 competition.
The board also learned that Wanda Foushee, who has been administrative assistant at the school since it opened in 1990, is resigning March 20. Debbie Shomaker was named as her successor.
Pat Duncan, the school's director, reported that 83 of the school's 98 students submitted papers for judging in the annual Virginia Junior Academy of Science competition, to be held this year at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington. Those whose papers are accepted will attend the academy.
She also said about 90 of the students are participating in the school's annual mentorship programs.
Duncan started the mentorship program several years ago. It involves students working and learning one day a week at hospitals, clinics and other work settings related to their academic interests in the last three months of the school year.
She originally planned the program just for juniors commuting from high schools in the school's service region. But, the following year, the participants who had become seniors wanted to do it again and Duncan has since had twice as many mentor sponsors to line up each time.
