KUBLER-ROSS FIRE PROBABLY BEGAN IN WOOD STOVE

The October fire that destroyed the Headwaters home of Elisabeth Kubler-Ross apparently started accidentally, Highland County Sheriff Herb Lightner says.

``From the evidence that I saw, observed and what was discussed at the fire, it appeared to be accidental,'' Lightner said Tuesday.

Kubler-Ross is internationally known for her books on death and dying and a recent book on life after death.

Lightner said the fire started in the center of the home on the main floor. ``We believe there was a fire in the stove there,'' he said. He said Kubler-Ross had told him there had been a fire in the wood stove the evening before her home burned, but she believed it was out when she left the county later that day.

Kubler-Ross has moved to Arizona, and the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Center at Headwaters is expected to close.
