IN SERVICE

THE FOOD SERVICE SECTION of the Virginia National Guard's Headquarters Company, First Battalion, 116th Infantry has received the Philip A. Connelly Award for excellence in food preparation.

Sgt. First Class Larry Woods led a crew that includes Sgts. Dennis Ayers, Gregory Mason, James Patterson and Jimmy Phillips, Specialist Michael Embry, Privates First Class Johnny Browing and Mark Saunders, and Private Peter Fenerty.

CPL. TREVOR S. DEMPSEY, son of Richard S. and Norma B. Dempsey of Craig Robertson Road, recently received a certificate of commendation.

Dempsey was cited for superior performance of duty while assigned with Weapons Training Battalion at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

He is a 1991 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

AIRMAN TIMOTHY J. KIZER, son of Dan J. and Susan E. Kizer of Vinton, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is a 1994 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.
