AKERS, Charles Derwood, 72, of Salem, formerly of Elliston, died Monday, March 20, 1995, at Richfield Nursing Center. He was employed with Norfolk & Western Railroad for several years. He was a member Lafayette Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. and Bessie W. Akers and a brother, J. Douglas Akers. Surviving are three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Gordon and Julia Akers, Elliston, Clovis and Alvin Akers, Salem, Boyd and Marie Akers, Roanoke, Clara Akers, Roanoke; one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda Eloise and James Overstreet of Salem; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at the John M. Oakey Funeral Home Chapel, Salem with the Rev. Tom Clay officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. BEDDINGFIELD, Robert W., 69, of Blue Ridge, passed away Monday, March 20, 1995. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Transportation and was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Helen H. Beddingfield; sons, Robert W. Beddingfield Jr. and wife, Toni, Mountain View, Calif., W. Todd Beddingfield, Ranson, W.Va., Kevin H. Beddingfield, Blue Ridge; daughters, Nancy J. Beddingfield and husband, Paul Leverenz, San Diego, Calif., Cheryl D. Beddingfield, Blue Ridge; grandson, Josh Beddingfield; a sister, Barbara Ann Nunnery, and husband, Michael Nunnery, Gainesville, Fla.; a brother, C. Richard Beddingfield, and wife, Virginia, Charlotte, N.C. A memorial service will be held at Oakey's North Chapel at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. John F. Beddingfield officiating. The family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's North Chapel.

BERGER, Annie Bell, 97, of Dublin, died Monday, March 20, 1995. Arrangements by Penn's Funeral Home, Pulaski.

BROWN, Lewis O'Dell, Jr. (``L.O.''), 69, of Roanoke, died Sunday, March 19, 1995, at his lake home. He is survived by his wife, Lillien S. Brown; one son and daughter-in-law, Donaldson and Cindy Brown; two daughters, Mary Patsel, Sallie Garst, and son-in-law, Dr. Gary Garst; six grandchildren, Christopher and Erin Brown, Forrest and Dustin Bowman, Simon and Ben Garst; a brother-in-law, William S. (Bill) Moses and his wife, Doyne; an uncle, Wesley A. Brown and his wife, Virginia. Mr. Brown was president of Blue Ridge Buick and was active in the Smith Mountain Lake Ministries for many years. He was a graduate of VPI and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. He was a life long member of Second Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held at Second Presbyterian Church Tuesday, March 21, at 1:30 p.m. with Dr. William R. Klein officiating. Interment in Evergreen Burial Park. CUSTER, Margaret Marie McCoy, 80, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, March 19, 1995, in a local hospital. She was predeceased by her adopted family, John and Ella Wheeler, Shady Grove. Survivors include her husband, Charlie L. Custer; one son and daughter-in-law, Charlie Everette and Joan Custer, Roanoke; one daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor Marie and Joseph Dillard, Vinton; four grandchildren, Wendy Dillard, Vinton, Lynne Custer Bledsoe and husband, Kelly Bledsoe, Cloverdale, Clark Allen Custer and wife, Jean Custer, Los Angeles, Calif.; Michael Griffin, Pontotoc, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Brad Griffin; and many survivors of the Wheeler family. DEEL, Michael Charles Jr., (``Mickey""), of Blue Ridge, left for a better place Monday, March 20,1995, 9:16 a.m. at the age of ten years, 5 months, 9 days and 9 hours. Waiting to join him later are his mother, Mary Lou Deel; and sister, Mollie Louise Deel, both of Blue Ridge; his sister, Birchie Dawn Vest; brother-in-law, Barry Leigh Vest Sr.; and his one nephew, Barry Leigh Vest Jr., all of Roanoke; his father, Michael Deel Sr., Hampton; his maternal grandparents, Gordon and Elsie Edwards, Blue Ridge; his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Ellen Deel, Hampton; and many other aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles; and countless cousins from all over. The celebration of his home-going will be at the Rainbow Forest Bapti st Church on Thursday, March 23, 1995, 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ken Butterworth officiating. His shell will be returned to the dust in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. HOLMES, James F., 81, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, March 19, 1995. He was born in Bedford on February 25, 1914, and was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth Pullen Holmes. He was veteran of World War II serving in the Navy in the Far East. He was a member of the Washington Street Baptist Church for many years. He worked for Bush Grocery Store, and after that he was employed by the Elks National Home and Frank Chervan in Bedford. He is survived by three brothers, William C. and wife, Georgia Holmes, Columbus, Ohio, Hal D. Holmes, Alexandria, Va., Robert L. Holmes, Bedford; sister, Lena R. Holmes, Bedford. JONES, Annie Nelson, (``Gee Gaw""), 83, of Wytheville, died Sunday, March 19, 1995, in the Smyth County Community Hospital. She was the widow of James Floyd Jones. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Lawrence Tickle of Max Meadows; one son and daughter-in-law, James F. Jr. and Janie Jones of Wytheville; two brothers, Guy Nelson, Lee Nelson, both of Wytheville; two grandchildren, Alan Dale and wife, Janet Jones, Delta Dawn Jones. Funeral services will be Wednesday 11 a.m. in the Mountain View United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Bruce Roten and the Rev. David Olinger with the interment in the church cemetery. JONES, Mary Alice Hawks, 92, of Rt. 2, Woodlawn, died Saturday, March 18, 1995, at Waddell Nursing Home in Galax. She was the widow of Elbert F. Jones. Survivors include a sister, Ella Burcham, Woodlawn; a brother, Clarence E. Hawks, Roanoke; several nieces and nephews. McGHEE, Robert Irvin, 78, of Salem, died Sunday, March 19, 1995 in the Lewis-Gale Hospital. He retired from Wren Lumber Company in 1981 after 25 years of service. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was also an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Billie F. McGhee; daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and John Blount, Winston-Salem, N.C., Mary and David Peters, Elysburg, Penn.; grandchildren, Melissa Pilcher, Brian Blount; great-grandson, Matthew Pilcher; sisters and brothers, Grace McGhee, Louise McGhee, Paul McGhee, Frances Ehlenfeldt, all of Salem, John L. McGhee, Bassett, Elizabeth Titlow, Blacksburg, Alice Sellew, Knoxville, Tenn., Willia m McGhee, Christiansburg, Donald McGhee, Lynchburg; numerous nieces and nephews. MYERS, Margaret S., of Smith Mountain Lake, died Monday, March 20, 1995. She was a member and past Senior Regent of Smith Mountain Lake Moose Lodge, where she remained active until her illness. Surviving are her husband, N.W. (Bill) Myers; daughter, Natalie Victoria (Vicky) Hollins, Roanoke; sons, Jimmy Carter, Fredericksburg, Michael Carter, Swansboro, Ga.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Russell, Bill, and Warren Street all of Richmond; two sisters, Elizabeth Clary, Richmond, Lillian Southworth, Milford. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, with Pastor Art Hearn officiating. PAGANS, Alfred Raymond, 90, of Route 1, Hardy, passed away Monday, March 20, 1995. He was a retired farmer. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dallas Morgan and Daisy Morgan, and is survived by several nieces and nephews. REESE, Mary Edna, 90, of Salem, died Monday, March 20, 1995, at Richfield Nursing Center. She was born in Kentucky and was a long time and faithful member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin D. Reese. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis E. and Dixie J. Reese, Salem; daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Ronald Riogborne, Colonial Heights, Ruby D. and Cecil Umberger, Williamsburg; grandsons, Marvin (Sandy) and Charles W. Reese, Rusty, Timothy, Steve and Mark Umberger, Randall Simmons; a granddaughter, Connie Leslie; sisters-in-law, Mary Bower, Louise Poole, both of Salem, Roxie Barrett, Goodview; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend, Bonnie Neighbors. REYNOLDS, Eleanor Elizabeth, (``Lizzie""), 91, of Newport, died Monday, March 20, 1995, at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, following a long illness. Born in Craig Co., Va., on June 6, 1903 she was the daughter of the late William A. and Fannie Keffer Jones. A devoted homemaker and mother, she was the wife of the late Howard M. Reynolds and was a member of the Mount Olivet-Newport United Methodist Church of Newport. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Osborne and Grace Reynolds, Blacksburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Polly R. and Raymond McFarlane, Roanoke; a daughter, Elizabeth R. Booth, Manteo, N.C.; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Henreitta Reynolds, Lebanon, Fannie Reynolds, Blac ksburg; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 1995, in the Mt. Olivet-Newport United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alan Thorn officiating. Burial will be in the Newport Cemetery. RHODES, Debra Stanley, 36, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, March 19, 1995. She was preceded in death by a loving mother, Shirley E. Stanley, and a brother, Adrian Stanley. Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, James Rodney Rhodes; one son, James Rashawn Stanley, Roanoke; four sisters, Marsha R. Stone, Denise M. Stanley, Towanda C. Stanley, Stacy (Tony) Dudley, all of Roanoke; three brothers, Ronald (Denise) Edwards, Keith (Jennifer) Stanley, both of Roanoke, Theodore (Denise) Stanley, Richmond; three devoted nieces, Cherokee C., Talethia M. and Madell D. ROBERTSON, Lonnie Kirk, infant son of Lisa Ann Matney and Charles Kirk Robertson, of Rocky Mount, died Monday, March 20, 1995, in a Roanoke hospital. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Kirk and Carol Robertson, Hardy, and J. R. and Carol Breen, Rocky Mount. ROSS, Willie Mat, 83, of Groseclose, died Monday, March 20, 1995 in Wythe County Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ross. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Connie Ross, Groseclose, Billy and Karen Ross, Flatridge; one granddaughter, Amiee Ross, Flatridge; several nieces and nephews. SENNSTROM, Robert L., 48, of Salem, passed away Sunday, March 19, 1995 in his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Polly M. Sennstrom; son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Sennstrom, of Riverside, N.J.; daughter, Kelly Sennstrom, of Salem; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sennstrom, of Redmond, Wash.; sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Melrose Woodson, of Gaithersburg, Md.; sister-in-law, Dot Sennstrom, of Redmond, Wash.; parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Milton McKann, of Williamsport, Md.; and two grandchildren, of Riverside, N.J. SHUPE, Donna Louise Smith, 93, of Newport News, died Sunday, March 19, 1995, in Riverside Regional Convalescent Center. Born in Grayson County, Va., she was a resident of Grayson County and Newport News. Mrs. Shupe retired from the Grayson County Public School System as a teacher after 32 years of service. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Fries Senior Citizens. Mrs. Shupe was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett Alfred Shupe. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Ponder of Chesnee, S.C.; her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Hazel Shupe of Chesapeake; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. C. Bolen Shupe of Newport News; eight grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel, Cranberry Road, Galax, Va., by President Raymond Kohl.
