ROCKIES PROVIDE STAMP OF APPROVAL

All that separates the Salem Avalanche from making its home opener at old Municipal Field instead of new Salem Stadium on April 14 is a letter in the mail and a rubber stamp.

The Colorado Rockies informed team owner Kelvin Bowles by fax transmission Thursday that it would go along with his request to open at Municipal - the former home of the Salem Buccaneers - instead of the new facility, which is still under construction.

Bowles requested the Rockies send a letter to that effect to be forwarded to the Carolina League and the National Association of Professional Baseball Clubs.

``The Rockies' approval is the main criteria I'll need for the league and the national association to give their approval,'' Bowles said. ``I do not anticipate any problem.''
