FITZGERALD NO-HITS JMU FOR HOKIES

Brian Fitzgerald threw Virginia Tech's first no-hitter in a decade as the Hokies blanked James Madison 5-0 in a non-conference baseball game Monday in Blacksburg.

Fitzgerald, a junior left-hander, faced 29 batters, striking out five and walking two. His no-hitter was the first for Virginia Tech since Jon Hartness, now an assistant coach with the Hokies, threw one against Utica College in 1985. The shutout was the second for Fitzgerald (4-2).

Bo Durkac had two doubles and three RBI for Tech (18-10), and David Fitt had three hits and one RBI. James Madison's record dropped to 24-11.

In other sports in the region:

Francesca Foord-Kelcey had six goals and one assist as Roanoke routed Hollins 22-3 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game. Gail Avery and Emily Pincomb each scored four goals for the Maroons (6-2 overall, 3-0 ODAC). Liz Morris had two goals for Hollins (2-6, 0-5).
