PRESIDENT SELECTS NEW ARMY CHIEF

President Clinton has selected the head of Army forces in the United States to be the next Army chief of staff, senior officials in the administration said Wednesday.

The officials said the White House intends to nominate Gen. Dennis J. Reimer, 55, the commander of the Army's Forces Command in Atlanta, to replace Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan, who will retire in June. An official announcement could come this week.
