VCU TUITION TO RISE 3 PERCENT NEXT YEAR

Tuition at Virginia Commonwealth University will climb 3 percent next year, the maximum increase allowed by state law.

The school's board of visitors Thursday adopted an $820 million budget for the year that starts July 1 that included the tuition increase.

Tuition for an in-state student will rise to $3,125. The board estimates that a year in college - including tuition, fees, room and board - will cost $8,336, also a 3 percent increase.

Out-of-state students' tuition will go up 5 percent to $10,728. Tuition, fees, room and board for out-of-state students will be $15,939.
