City Council on Monday approved a cut-rate lease with a semipro football team - the Roanoke Rush - that will bring the team to Victory Stadium for six games beginning this summer.
The 7-0 vote grants the use of the stadium to the football team, which is owned by Nick Rush, a Christiansburg businessman and member of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors.
Council agreed, for one year only, to cut lease payments on the stadium to 4 percent of ticket revenues, rather than the usual fee of 8 percent. The city also will get 20 percent of the gross receipts from concessions.
Home games are tentatively scheduled for Aug.5, Aug.12, Sept.9, Sept.30, Oct.7 and Oct.21.
