Valley Hosts plan banquet

RADFORD - The New River Valley Hosts will have its first annual spring banquet on May 24. The New River Valley Hosts is a nonprofit tourism development organization. The group is preparing to open and staff a Visitor Center for the New River Valley and has published "Guide to the New River Valley." The banquet is open to members and non-members.

The dinner will feature a short presentation on tourism development and guest speaker Spanker Macher, a restaurant developer and owner of the Star City Diner in Roanoke.

Those attending the banquet are encouraged to dress as tourists. Door prizes will be given to the best dressed tourist.

Cost of the dinner is $15 with a cash bar preceeding the dinner. For reservations call Charlie Whitescarver at the Norwood Center at 633-2726. The dinner will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Norwood Center, 1115 Norwood St.

Fishing rodeo May 21

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Christiansburg/Montgomery County Chapter, Inc. invites young children to its Annual Fishing Rodeo at the Izaak Walton Park. The event has been hosted for 30 years and is for children ages 4 to 12. The fishing is free with no license required. Food and drinks will be served to the children. Parents must accompany children.

The event is May 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. The Izaak Walton Park is off of Den Hill Road in Montgomery County.

`Teaching Parents to Play'

PULASKI - The seventh in a series of Parenting for Success programs will be held Thursday. Titled "Teaching Parents to Play," the program will be from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m. in classroom 6 in the vocational building at Pulaski High School. The session will be conducted by Susan, Michelle and Dianna Forrest.

The event is a series of parenting programs co-sponsored by Pulaski High School, Work and Family Studies Program and Virginia cooperative Extension.
