GOLF GATHERING: The 22nd Annual First National Bank Greater Blacksburg Open is almost here.
The GBO is one of Southwest Virginia's most prestigious golf tournaments. It will be held June 24-25 at the Blacksburg Country Club.
Proceeds from the tournament help fund numerous community projects of the Blacksburg Jaycees. The money raised in this tournament is used primarily to send mentally and physically challenged youth and young adults from the New River Valley to Camp Virginia Jaycee in Bedford.
The entry fee for the tournament is $110. It includes cart fee and 36 holes of golf. For information, call KEMP FANT at 382-5379.
SPORTS CAMPS: Christiansburg Parks and Recreation is holding camps for youths in baseball, football and wrestling.

The baseball camps will be divided by age groups. The camp for rising fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders will be June 12-16. The camp for rising seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders will be June 19-23.
PHIL CONNERS will be the instructor at the camps. The sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.
The cost is $50 for town residents and $55 for non-residents. Registration ends May 31.
The football camp is for youths ages 9-13 (as of Nov. 1 and not in the eighth grade). The camp starts July 10 and features three-hour sessions beginning at 5 p.m.
The cost is $25 for town residents and $30 for non-residents. Registration ends June 23.
The wrestling camp is for youths 6-18 (and still in school). The camp begins June 12 and consists of four-hour morning sessions beginning at 8.
The cost is $25 for town residents and $30 for non-residents. Registration ends June 9.
DEADLINE APPROACHING:
Registration ends Friday for a youth singles and doubles tennis tournament in Montgomery County.
The tournament will be held June 3-4 at Christiansburg High.
Participants will be divided into two age groups: 11-13 and 14-17.

SWIMMING ALONG: Radford is offering Red Cross certified swimming lessons for ages ranging from six months to adults.
Classes are in two-week sessions and will be held both in the morning and evening. The cost is $10 per session.
The city also has a Red Cross "Swim & Stay Fit" program. Responsible adult swimmers (ages 16 and over) can participate in the lap swimming program. The Bisset Park pool will be reserved for lap swimming weekdays from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The cost is $10.

HELP WANTED: Montgomery County is looking for a few good people to help out with its sports programs.
The county needs volunteer baseball coaches, paid baseball umpires, softball umpires, golf instructors, tennis instructors, scorekeepers and baseball clinic instructors.

SOCCER TRYOUTS: The New River Soccer Club will hold tryouts for traveling teams for the 1995-96 season Monday (Memorial Day).
Tryouts will be held at the Virginia Tech Intramural Fields on the south side of Southgate Drive in Blacksburg.
The schedule is as follows:
Boys born after Aug. 1, 1984, from 8:15 to 10:30 a.m.
All girls from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Boys born between Aug. 1, 1981, and July 31, 1984, from 1:15 to 3:30 p.m.
Boys born between Aug. 1, 1979, and July 31, 1981, from 3:45 to 6 p.m.
Tryouts for boys born between Aug. 1, 1976, and July 31, 1980, will be held at a later time because of the continuing high school soccer season.
All interested players are encouraged to try out as the club is looking to field two or more teams in several age groups, start a new Under-9 team, and increase the number of girls participating.

HOOPIN' IT UP: The Pearisburg Community Center will be the site of a three-on-three youth basketball tournament June 3.
Play will begin at 8 a.m. The tournament will be divided into two divisions: eighth-ninth grade and 10th-11th grade. The cost is $15 per team.
There also will be a free-throw shooting contest. The cost is five chances for $1.
