MAN CHARGED IN STRING OF BURGLARIES

A Salem man has been arrested and charged with burglarizing 19 Roanoke Valley homes in the last two months.

Police arrested Coleman A. Stigall, 35, Thursday in Roanoke, Sgt. D.A. Divers of the Salem police said Tuesday.

Divers said Stigall is suspected in six burglaries each in Salem and Roanoke County and seven in Roanoke.

Stigall, of the 1600 block of Lynchburg Turnpike in Salem, faces burglary and grand larceny charges in each jurisdiction.

Divers estimated that during the two-month crime spree, about $100,000 worth of property was taken from the homes - most of it jewelry, silver and VCRs. Police have recovered some of the property.

When Stigall was arrested, police said they found property in his car taken in a Roanoke County burglary that morning.

Police found Stigall by tracking down a car, Divers said. However, he would not say how police connected Stigall to all the crimes.

Divers said it is unusual for police to link one person to such a large number of break-ins.

Stigall is being held without bond by Salem police. He is still being investigated in connection with other burglaries.
