But it's not crime-fighting in the strictest sense.
It's wide-open gridiron action as the Roanoke Police Department football team takes on the Bland County Correctional Center guards Friday at Roanoke's Victory Stadium.
Team members will trade their badges and guns for helmets and shoulder pads to raise money for Roanoke's Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.
The program, which teaches young people how to avoid drugs, is funded in part by the city. But Sgt. Al Brown, Roanoke's DARE supervisor, said game proceeds would buy additional supplies.
Tickets for the 7 p.m. game are $4 for adults and $2 for children younger than 12, and are available at the gate.
