ARRINGTON, Lorenzo J., 79, of Rocky Mount, passed away Thursday morning, June 8, 1995, in Franklin Memorial Hospital. Mr. Arrington, a retired Miller, was preceded in death by his wife, Julia C. Arrington. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Linda A. and Stan Hodges, Wytheville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Harold Arrington, Chatham, Herbert L. and Bonnie Arrington, Pelham, N.C.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Dorothy C. Cundiff, Wirtz, Bernice and Luther Loudermilk, Rocky Mount; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave and Pearl Arrington, Colonial Beach, Va., A. J. and Patti Arrington, Martinsville, Marvin and Eveyln Arrington, Willie Jr. and Joyce Arrington, all of Rocky Mount; also surviving are 6 grandchildren; four great-grandchilren. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Sa turday, June 10, 1995, at Mountain View Memorial Park with Rev. William Pugh officiating. BOBBITT, Michael Jerry, 59, of Salem, died Wednesday, June 7, 1995, at his home. Jerry was a loyal and dedicated employee for 39 years with the Roanoke Times & World-News. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis William and Grace Quarles Bobbitt. He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny J. and Ellen Bobbitt, Roanoke, Lewis David and Thelma Bobbitt, Blue Ridge; four nieces. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 10, 11 a.m., at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Robert Sadler officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Association. BOOTH, Donald A., 79, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 8, 1995. He was formerly of Tuscon, Ariz. and a member of the Grace Coverant Church. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II in Alaska. Mr. Booth served for many years in the Salvation Army as Corps Sgt. Major of the Tuscon Citadel. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy W. Booth; sons, Donald A. Booth Jr., Richard A. Booth, both of Tuscon, Ariz.; a daughter, Major Mrs. Barbara B. Hunter of Denver, Colo.; three stepchildren, Stephen R. Lohmeyer of Vinton, Richard C. Lohmeyer of Washington, Pa., Ruth M. Sansone of Magnolia, Mass.; nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel 8:30 p.m. Friday with Pastor John Ault officiating. Interment will be in Tuscon, Ariz. The family will receive friends before the service from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

BROWN, Gwendolyn Vivian Willis, 75, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 1995. She fought a good and faithful fight. She was formerly of Washington D.C., where she was a member of the Evangel Temple Church. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Brown Jr.; and her son Lewis Allen Willis. Survivors include her loving brother, Francis Willis, Salem; two grandchildren, Crystal Carnell and Lewis Allen Willis Jr. both of California; eight great-grandchildren; two caring sisters-in-law, Camille Willis, Roanoke, and Mildred Ballard, Cincinnati, Ohio; devoted grand-niece, niece and nephew, Starr Carter, Salem, Inether Carter, Roanoke, and Jerome Willis, Md.; other nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends throughout the Roanoke Valley and the Washington D.C. areas. BUTLER, Mary W., (``Nink""), of Washington, D.C., formerly of Bedford, died Wednesday, June 7, 1995, at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Left to cherish her memory is one son, Glen Butler of Bedford; one devoted niece, Mrs. Katherine P. Oglesby of Washington, D.C.; and other nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law, Ruben C. Cannon of Toccoa, Ga. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 12 noon at the Otterville Baptist Church in Bedford County with the Rev. D.M. Mays officiating. CLOWERS, Jesse F., 80, of Elliston, died Thursday, June 8, 1995 at his home, surrounded by the peace and love of his family. During WWII, he served in the U. S. Army in North Africa and Europe. He was retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem. A life-long and faithful member of Big Spring Baptist Church, he served many years as Treasurer and Deacon. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Louise Owens Clowers; his son, J. Wayne Clowers and daughter-in-law, Brenda Cronk Clowers, Roanoke; two grandchildren, Joshua Forbes Clowers and Dorian Elizabeth Clowers, Roanoke; one sister, Nellie Clowers Butt, Elliston; one brother, Roy L. Clowers, Elliston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Big Spring Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Sholar officiating. Inte rment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, Elliston. GRUBB, Elizabeth Hundley, 88, of Roanoke, died Thursday, June 8, 1995. She was the widow of Walter L. Grubb Sr. She was a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church and the Harmon Bible Class. She was retired from the C&P Telephone Company in Radford. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Walter L. Jr. and Judith H. Grubb, Charlotte, N.C.; two grandsons, Walter L. Grubb III, Richmond, Steven Michael Grubb, Raliegh, N.C.; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at the grave in West View Cemetery, Radford at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Walter M. Lockett officiating. HARDY, Joanne, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, June 8,1995. HELMS, Frank Alexander Jr., of Hardy, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 1995. Frank was a retired special police officer from Bedford County and the former owner of both Frank's and Middy's Restaurants. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Doyle Helms; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Blair Stone, Mitzi and Timmy Maxey, Sheila Helms, all of Hardy; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Bob Whitehead, Stewartsville; daughter from a previous marriage, Sandy Dalton, Roanoke. He has left many beloved friends and relatives around the country. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 11:30 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Christopher D. Fowler officiating. HODGES, Christopher W., 24, of Roanoke Co., died Thursday, June 8, 1995, at his home. He was a graduate of Cave Spring High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. She was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church, a former employee of American Viscose Corp. and a member of Ogdan Senior Citizens. She was the guardian of E. LIGHT, Viola Clark, 86, of Roanoke, died Thursday, June 8, 1995. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

MARTIN, John Lewis, 82, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, June 7, 1995 (just days short of his birthday) at his home. He was born in Floyd, Va., son of the late Esta and Giles Martin. He was previously employed by Union Carbide, Bendix Aviation and Western Electric, before starting his own corporation, Martin Industries, Inc. of Newark, N.J. in 1944. Mr. Martin was a former member of Western Electric Square CLub, and a Past President of Newark, N.J.'s Ironbound Rotary Club, Past Master of St. Albans Masonic Lodge #68 (now merged with Newark Lodge #7, Montclair, N.J.) He was also a member of the Jesters, the Salaam Temple Mounted Guard and Salaam Temple (1975), Livingston, N.J., where he helped create the current yearly circus used to raise funds for the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children. He was also a member of N.J. Northern Valley Consistory, Knights Templars and Royal Arch Masons. After retiring in 1978, Mr. Martin moved to Blacksburg, Va., close to where he was born in Floyd Co. Wanting to be still active for the Shriners Hospitals, he joined Kazim Temple in Roanoke, where he supported them at football games in Blacksburg and various fund-raising events. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Laura Andrews Martin; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea (Dree) and Jim Stoodley, Hollywood, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Elaine Van Valkenburgh, New Providence, N.J.; five grandchildren, Donna O'Dell, Mirmar, Fla., Laura Dandeneau, Boca Raton, Fla., Debra Matchen, Plantation, Fla., Sherilyn Williams, Chapel Hill, N.C., and Arthur Scott Van Valkenburgh, Bridgewater, N.J.; five great-grandchildren, David and Dylan O'Dell, Michael and Timothy Matchen, and Nikki Vasko, all of Florida; sister, Melissa Naff, Pilot; brother, Fred; many nieces and nephews and his loving pets. A memorial service will be held at a later date, since his body has been donated to science.
