BEDFORD WOMAN REPORTS ASSAULT

A 33-year-old Bedford woman told police she was assaulted and beaten by a man early Sunday.

The woman told police she was using the pay telephone on the 1400 block of Williamson Road Northeast about 3 a.m. when a man approached and grabbed her by the throat. He then forced her into her car, where he told her to take off her clothes. When the woman resisted, the man hit her several times in the face.

The woman kicked the assailant, broke free and escaped from the car. She hid nearby until the man left. She then called police.

She was treated at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley for facial injuries.
