CLENDENIN, Jeffrey Allen, 16, of 301 Brookman, Street, Narrows, died Sunday evening, June 11, 1995. A lifelong resident of Narrows, he was born in Bluefield, W.Va. on December 17, 1978 and was the son of Donna Hamilton Clendenin of Narrows and Ronald Edward Clendenin of Glen Burnie, Md. He was a student at Narrows High School and was a member of the Junior Squad of the Giles Lifesaving and Rescue Squad. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Jason Edward Clendenin of Narrows; sisters, Nikki Hamilton and Natalie Hamilton, both of Narrows; his maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Shelby and Earl Copeland of Roanoke, his maternal grandmother, Mary Clendenin of Narrows. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church in Narrows with the Rev. Tony Robertson and the Rev. Mike Mitchener officiating. Burial will follow in the Millirons Family Cemetery at Wolf Creek in Giles County. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows, Thursday evening from 6 to 9.

DILLON, Myra Bowling, 74, of Roanoke, died Monday, June 12, 1995. She was retired from Eli Lilly and was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church, Montvale. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Sophia Giles. Surviving are her husband, Calvin L. Dillon; daughter, Janet D. Jirout, Bedford; grandson, Matthew Anton Jirout, Roanoke; brothers, William E. Bowling, Rocky Mount, Jack L. Bowling, Roanoke County; sister, Helen B. Jansen, Roanoke; and a number of nieces of nephews. HARLEY, Willie Ett, 68, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, June 10, 1995. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., High Street Baptist Church, with Dr. N. C. Taylor officiating. HELLEGAS, Gary Charles, 32, of Raleigh, N.C., passed away Monday, June 12, 1995. He had been a resident of Raleigh for the past 14 months. Gary is survived by his parents, Richard A. and Patricia Hellegas; and a sister, Karen, all of Roanoke. Gary was born in Charlottesville, Va. on July 22, 1962 and moved with his family to Roanoke in 1972. He attended Roanoke County schools graduating from Cave Spring High School in 1980. He attended Roanoke College for 21/2 years majoring in secondary education with concentration in mathematics. Gary is a member of Raleigh Court Presbyteria n Church where, as a youth, he was active in the Youth Choirs and served as an assistant working with the Childrens Choir. Throughout his high school and later years, Gary combined his natural music talent with his interest in retail sales. At the time of his death, Gary was manager of Blockbuster Entertainment, Crabtree Mall, Raleigh, N.C. A memorial service will be held at Oakey's South Chapel at 2 p.m. Monday, June 19, 1995. Dr. F. Tupper Garden will officiate. The family request that in lieu of flowers contributions in his memory be made to the Roanoke Aids Project, Client Services Fund, P.O. Box 4367, Roanoke, Va. 24015. Gary's family express deep appreciation for the support and assistance of his many friends in Roanoke and Raleigh during his illness.

HOWELL, Ruth Compton, 79, of Route 1, Goodview, passed away Sunday, June 11, 1995, while visiting with her son in Albuquerque, N.M. Mrs. Howell was a teacher for the Public school system, serving most of her time in the State of West Va. Survivors include her loving husband, J. Beno Howell; one son and wife, James B. (""Bo"") Howell and Lyn Howell, Albuquerque N.M.; one sister, Virginia Chambers, Huntington, W. Va.; two grandsons, Chad and John Howell. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 16, 1995, from the Mays Memorial United Methodist Church, Stewartsville, with the Rev. Sara L. Hudson officiating. KERR, Geraldine Wise, 97, of Roanoke, died Saturday, June 10, 1995, in a local nursing home. She was the widow of William B. Kerr. KILLINGER, Karl David, 40, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, June 8, 1995. Karl served in the U.S. Coast Guard, receiving an honorable discharge and was an employee of Griggs VanHorn and Associates. Surviving are his father, Bain Karl Killinger Jr., Roanoke; his mother and stepfather, Shirley Porterfield and Walter E. Wills, Jonesboro, Ga.; his sisters and brother-in-law, Karol and David Lurch, Stafford, Va., Elaine Conkling, Atlanta, Ga.; a special aunt, Dorothy A. Killinger and her son, Davy Lee Robertson, Roanoke; his grandmothers, Sallie C. Killinger, Roanoke, Emily Cowan and her husband, Bill, Missouri; his stepbrothers, John Godwin and his wife, Gaynor, Norfolk, Ricky Godwin and his wife, Scarlet, Atlanta, Ga., Charlie Wills, U.S. Navy, Sardenia; his aunts, Edith K. Killinger, Edna C. Freeman and her husband, Francis, all of Roanoke, Virginia Meserve and her husband, Joseph, Phoenix, Ariz.; his uncle, Richard Porterfield and his wife, Dottie, Arkansas; also several nieces and nephews. McFARLAND, John Green, 71, of 313 East Hawthorne Street, Covington, died Monday afternoon, June 12, 1995, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born September 29, 1923, at Ellett, in Montgomery County, the son of the late Millard B. and Clara Kirby McFarland. Mr. McFarland served as Chief of Police of Covington from 1986 until his retirement on March 31, 1989. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Elsie Neal McFarland of Covington; three sons, Kenneth E. McFarland and Alan W. McFarland, both of Covington and John Michael McFarland of Rt. 2, Hot Springs; four granddaughters; one great-grandson; two brothers, Joe S. McFarland of Blacksburg and Millard B. McFarland Jr. of Christiansburg; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. McFarland was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. The funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Leroy Young officiating. The interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park. The family will receive their friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 8:30 at the Arritt Funeral Home. The family suggests that donations in Mr. McFarland's name be made to the American Heart Associating or to the Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church.

PHILLIPPI, Edward F. Jr., 75, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., died Wednesday, June 7, 1995, at his home in California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward F. and Lula Pickle Phillippi of Sugar Grove, Va. He is survived by his wife, Jean Phillippi of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; one daughter, Susan Blau of Studio City, Calif.; one son, Edward F. Phillippi III of Arlington Heights, Ill.; one sister, Dorthea Hall, Marion; two brothers, Elmer Phillippi, Sugar Grove, Va., Charles Phillippi, Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Myles Blau, Edward F. REED, Letha Weeks, 95, of Floyd, passed away Monday, June 12, 1995, in a Radford hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Reed; and one son, Cecil Reed. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Elvin Reed, Floyd; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Janice and Sammy Hale, Floyd, Karen and Ronnie Gallimore, Floyd; one sister, Toye Gillispie, Floyd; a special friend, Rubie Dickerson, Willis; several nieces and nephews. RICHARDSON, Claude Winston Jr., (""Sonny""), 49, of 4763 Tatum Rd., Disputanta, Va., died Tuesday, June 13, 1995 at his residence. He was production specialist for I.C.I. America Inc. in Hopewell. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech, Class of '68. He is survived by his wife, Sandra R. Richardson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Peter and Karen Walsh Richardson, Richmond, Tee Edward and Michelle Wharam Richardson, Powhatan; father-in-law, Larry Sunderland, Leon, W. Va.; two brothers-in-law, Monty J. Sunderland, Fort Myers, Fla., and Jeffery J. Sunderland, Utah. Mr. Richardson was predeceased by his mother, Opal Motley Richardson, and his uncle, Edward M. Motley. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 1995, at Walnut Hill Baptist Church, Petersburg. Interment will be private. SHANK, Marion E., 73, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, June 12, 1995, in a local hospital. She was a retired employee of Appalachian Power Company after 25 years. Surviving are her twin sister, Helen Shank; sister, Jean Hammersley; brother and sister-in -law, Albert and Dorothy Shank, all of Roanoke; also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be at St. Andrew's Catholic Church 11:15 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Fr. James Fosnot officiating. Interment will be in the St. Andrew's Diocesan Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 7 p.m. Wednesday, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Andrew's Catholic Church Building Fund or a favorite charity.

SHAVER, John Henry, 82, of Blacksburg, died Monday, June 12, 1995, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawsville. Born in Montgomery County, April 14, 1913, he was the son of the late George Thomas and Roxie Belle Dove Shaver. He was a retired carpenter with R.A.A.P. Mr. Shaver was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Dove Shaver, and a daughter, Nancy S. Barnett. Surviving are a granddaughter and husband, Brenda Barnett and Michael Dowdy, Pembroke; a son-in-law and wife, Homer and Betty Jo Barnett, Blacksburg; one sister and husband, Mary Kate and Mason Lafon, Blacksburg; two brothers and wives, Hobart and Avis Shaver, Pearisburg, Sid and Anna Lee Shaver, Blacksburg; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 1995 at Blacksburg First Wesleyan Church with the Rev. John Hopkins and Rev. Homer D. Sawyer officiating.
