Radford's men's soccer coach SPENCER SMITH and women's coach LISA O'BRIEN will hold three camps. The peewee camp for boys and girls ages 5-7 is June 26-30 from 9 a.m. to noon. The day camp for ages 8-13 is July 10-14. And the boarding camp for ages 14-18 is July 16-21. For information on the soccer camps, call 831-5215.

There are still openings in the summer sports camps at Concord College in Athens, W.Va. Camps include football for children ages 12-18 July 18-21; boys' basketball for ages 8-13 July 13-16, and ages 13-18 on July 23-26; girls' basketball for ages 10-18 July 27-30; and girls' volleyball for grades 7-12 July 18-21. TOURNAMENT TIME: There will be volleyball and softball tournaments this weekend in the New River Valley.
The volleyball event is the annual Pulaski Depot Days Tournament on Saturday at Jackson Park. The entry fee is $30 per team. The tournament will have either a round robin or double-elimination format, depending on the number of entries. The softball tournament will be in Blacksburg and is for teams in Classes C, D and E. It also begins Saturday, at Toms Creek Field in Blacksburg. The entry fee is $75, and the field is limited to 10 teams. For information, call PAUL BIELEMA at 961-6907.
SWIMMING ALONG: The Blacksburg Sunfish came up just a bit short in their first meet of the summer. Roanoke Country Club edged Blacksburg 10271/2-10101/2. Radford was third in the tri-meet at 488.
Twenty-seven swimmers won at least one event for Blacksburg, including seven double winners.
In the Gold Division, the double winners were YVONNE NG in 25-meter freestyle and 25-meter backstroke, girls 7-8 age group; BOBBY NEWCOMB, 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke, boys 13-14; JAMES WOLFLE, 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke, men 25-39; and LUCILLE GRIFFIN, 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke, women 40-and-older.
Winning two events in the Silver Division were AMANDA ROWLAND, 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke, girls 11-12; and STEVE LANK, 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke, boys 15-16. And MATTHEW BEISECKER won twice in the Bronze Division in 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter backstroke, boys 13-14.
TRACK REPORT: Three records were set in the 11th Annual Pulaski Hershey's Youth Track Meet.
JOSELYN TRAVIS set two records for girls 11-12: 8-1 in the standing long jump and 29.53 in the 200-meter dash. Travis also tied for the win in the 100 meters.
The other record-setter was TERRANCE SMITH, who won the standing long jump with 7-10 1/2. Smith also won the 100 meters.
Other multiple winners included DUSTIN KING, softball throw and 200 meters, boys 9-10; NURRISSA ROLLINS, softball throw and 50 meters, girls 9-10; ADAM FERGUSON, 200 meters and 800 meters, boys 11-12; MOLLY QUINLAN, standing long jump and 1600 meters, girls 13-14; ISRAEL LONG, 100 meters and 200 meters, boys 13-14; and DREW COVEY, standing long jump and 800 meters, boys 13-14. Ferguson, Quinlan and Covey were also members of victorious 400-meter relay teams.
BATTED BALL ROUNDUP: There is a tight race in the Pulaski Girls 15-and-under softball league.
The Rockies and Reds are tied for the top spot at 3-1. In their only meeting so far, the Reds prevailed, 23-5. MELISSA "MOUSE" BLEVINS ripped a pair of home runs while LEANNA BLEVINS, SHANNON NEWMAN and KRISTEN ADKINS all went 5-for-5.
nThe Braves knocked off their two closest competitors last week and took a slim lead in the Pulaski Dixie Youth Majors baseball league for children ages 11-12.
In successive games, the Braves (6-1) beat the Bombers (5-2) and the Yankees (5-2). Against the Bombers, CHANCE RATCLIFF fired a two-hitter and struck out 10, while R.J. DAVIS hit a two-run double in the 11-2 win. Davis did the damage against the Yankees as well, firing a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts and getting two hits, including a homer. KELLEN WOHLFORD, TODD SOUTHERN and Ratcliff also had two hits each.
The A's have taken a strong lead in the Pulaski Dixie Youth Minors baseball league for children ages 9-10. The A's (8-0) have won three games by a single run, including a 9-8 win in the showdown with the second-place Orioles (4-3). TYLER ASHWORTH ended that contest with a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring ADAM BLEVINS and CASEY PISCURA with the tying and winning runs.
