ALFORD, Calvin F. Sr., 68, of Tazewell, died Friday, June 23, 1995 in a Bluefield, W.Va. hospital. Born in Rockbridge Co., a son of the late William Samuel and Irisha Camden Alford. He was a very active member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Tazewell where he had served in various offices and committees. He retired as Assistant Resident Engineer in 1987 after 43 years with the Virginia Department of Transportatio n. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Japan during World War II. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William S. Alford Jr. and Hampton S. Alford Sr. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Wash Alford; three daughters, Mary A. Adkins of Newport, Tenn., Susan A. Dowdy and Jenny A. Walk both of Tazewell; four sons, Calvin F. Alford Jr. of Illa, Ga., G. Michael Alford, Robert B. Alford and William S. Alford III, all of Tazewell; one sister, Harriet Basham of Troutville; one aunt, Carmen Duff of Natural Bridge; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, 1995 at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Tazewell with Dr. Thomas A. Conley officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at the Mount Zion Methodist Church Cemetery near Glasgow in Rockbridge County. CHEEK, J. Frank, 83, of Morehead, N.C., died Friday, June 23, 1995 at Carteret General Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was the owner and operator of Cheeks Antique in Morehead City. He is survived by his wife, Theresa M. EVANS, Daisy Styles, 96, of Buena Vista, formerly of Lexington, died Thursday, June 22, 1995 in a Buena Vista nursing home where she had resided for several years. The daughter of the late Spottswood A. Syles Sr. and the late Bertha Hawkins Styles, she was born in Lexington, August 3, 1898. She and her late husband, John W. Evans owned and operated a motel business in Wildwood, N.J. Mrs. Evans was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lexington and the Eureka Baptist Church in Wildwood, N.J. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Margaret S. Jackson, Wildwood, N.J.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will received friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. James Brown, 601 McCorkle Drive, Lexington. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 25, at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. J. Dennis Rose, Minister. J. B. Lewis Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.

GARST, George Layman, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, June 24, 1995. He was a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church and The Raleigh Court Lions Club. Mr. Garst was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Garst, and is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, H. Clifton and Roberta Garst; four sisters-in-law, Billie Garst, Kathleen Godfrey, Estelle Fields, Mary Spicer; a very special niece, Ivie Ellis; and a number of other nieces and nephews. GOODWIN, Marion Edwina, 96, of Bedford, died Friday, June 23, 1995 in a local nursing home. She was born September 22, 1898 in Berlin, Conn. a daughter of the late Freeman Ernest Williams and Harriet Mae Patterson Williams. She was the widow of Dr. Allie Jesse Goodwin. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia G. Scott of Bedford; two grandchildren, Lynne O. Scott of Palno, Texas, and David R. Scott of Richmond. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Longwood Cemetery Monday, June 26, 1995, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James A. Creasy officiating. Memorial may be made to a favorite charity. HENDERSON, Ann R., 42, of 332 E. Elm Street, Penn Yan, N.Y., died Friday, June 23, 1995 at her home. Ann was born December 1, 1952 in Washington D.C. and was the daughter of Cmdr. John D. and Elizabeth D. Knowles Richardson. She was a graduate of Blacksburg High School, Class of 1970 and was active in the Women's Athletic Association. She was also a graduate of Emory & Henry College in Virginia, Class of 1973 with a B.S. in Sociology. She was employed as Housing Coordinator with the Yates County Housing. Ann was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Women of the Moose in Penn Yan. She is survived by her mother, Betty Richardson of Blacksburg; a son, David (Brad) Henderson of Great Bridge; a daughter, Katie Elizabeth Binko of Penn Yan, N.Y.; beloved companion and partner, Allen C. Bishop of Penn Yan, N.Y.; sister, Lt. Cmdr. Kathryn Martinson of Winter Park, Fla. Friends may call at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church with the Rev. HUFFMAN, Paul Timothy, 71, went to be with the Lord, Friday, June 23, 1995 at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. He was born May 30, 1924 in Rockbridge County, son of the late William Huffman and Regina Green Huffman. He had been a member of the Mountain View Assembly of God Church for several years where he served as an Elder. He was a veteran of WW II and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Huffman was retired from the Bernson Silk Mill. Surviving are his wife of over 50 years, Annie Conner Huffman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Paul Majors, Darlene and Robert Sloan all of Buena Vista; four grandchildren, James Shafer, Amy Shafer, Tammy Shafer and Paul Majors Jr.; four sisters, Estelle Secrist, Gladys Bates, Mary Humphries, and Ruth Evans all of Buena Vista. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Mondm ay at the Mountain View Assemble of God Church with the Rev. Jim Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. HUGHES, Delmer W., 74, of Salem, died Friday, June 23, 1995, at his home. Mr. Hughes was formerly of Abingdon. He retired from Clinchfield Coal Co. after 34 years. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Large Hughes; son, Donald W. Hughes; daughter, Rose Hughes Richards; seven grandchildren; brothers, Elmer Hughes, Ballard C. HYPES, Fred L., 72, of the Brosville Section of Cascade, formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, June 23, 1995 at his residence. He was an Army veteran of WW II. Mr. Hypes was a member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion. He was retired from Roanoke Iron and Bridge Co. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn S. Hypes; one daughter, Betty H. LaPrade, Cascade; one grandson, Robert L. LaPrade, Roanoke; one granddaughter, Rhonda L. Stump, Bedford; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. JETT, Walter Roy, (""Pappy""), 80, of 1111 Lakeview Place, Roanoke, died Friday, June 23, 1995 in the Medical College of Virginia Hospital, Richmond, Va. Mr. Jett was born May 13, 1915, in Floyd County, son of the late Walter L. and Pearl Gravely Jett. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Hayslett Jett in 1991, one son, Jerry Jett in January of 1995, four brothers, and one sister. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. David (Dreama) Byer, Roanoke; two granddaughters, Lewanda Hogan, Roanoke, and Ms. Crystal Jett, Altavista; one great-grandson, Chris Hogan, Roanoke; one brother, Elmer Jett, Baltimore, Md.; and two sisters, Mrs. Maude Duncan, Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Gertrude McCulley, Kentucky. ""You will be greatly missed by your family and friends."" A funeral service will be held Tuesday 2 p.m. from the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel, Covington, with the Rev. LEE, Garland L., (``Mack""), 69 of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, June 24, 1995. Mr. Lee served during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by a son, Allen Lee, his father and mother, Emmett and Lura Lee, and sisters, Norma Lee, Virgie Duncan and Pauline Shaw. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor W. LILLY, Irene Huffman, 93, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, June 23, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Add W. Lilly. She was a long time member of First Wesleyan Church. McGRAW, Emory, (``Gene""), 66, of Salem, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 24, 1995, at a local hospital. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was retired from the Fulton Truck Company. Survivors include his wife, Shirley McGraw; one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory W. and Phyllis W. McGraw of Montgomery County; one brother, Richard McGraw of Union Town, Ohio; stepmother, Imogene McGraw, Walnut Grove, W.Va.; six half brothers; and two half sisters; also two granddaughte rs, Victoria and Cassandra McGraw. PERRY, William O. Jr., (``Bill""), 86, of Independence, passed away Friday, June 23, 1995 at Blue Ridge Highlands Nursing Home, Galax. Mr. Perry was born March 9, 1909, at Welch, West Virginia to William Oswald Perry Sr., and Nannie Tate Perry. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired merchant with Western Auto Store, Independence. He is survived by a son, William E. ``Bill"" Perry of Annandale. PRILLAMAN, Madoline Thomasson, 80, of 126 N. Daniels Creek Road, Collinsville, died Saturday, June 24, 1995, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Born in Henry County, August 9, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Albert Frank Thomasson and Cassie Metz Thomasson. She was the widow of Randolph Gold Prillaman. She has sold ladies clothing for over 30 yeas, most recently for C. W. Holt in Martinsville. Mrs. Prillaman was a member of Smith Memorial United Methodist Church, Collinsville. Surviving are two sons, Albert Lee Prillaman of Union Hall, Randolph G. Prillaman of Arlington; two sisters, Mrs. Robert E. (Thelma) Fulcher of Collinsville, Mrs. C.H. (Beatrice) McFall of Newport News; five brothers, Simmons O. Thomasson, Harold W. Thomasson, H. Wilson Thomasson, all of Collinsville, J. Dillard Thomasson of Ridgeway, O. C. RYMAN, Vernon Linden, 78, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, June 24, 1995 in a local hospital. She was born May 8, 1920 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late William Nester and Mary Alice Folden Nester. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Otey Tyler, and a son, Bobby Tyler. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Samuel Nester, Montvale; Tommy Tyler, Texas; two daughters, Faye Meador, Blue Ridge, Joyce Tyler, Montvale; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. WHITFIELD, Maggie Barefield, 99, of Roanoke, died Friday, June 23, 1995. She was formerly of Roanoke, the widow of Frank Young Whitfield Sr., (a prominent Mississippi banker), and was a long-time resident of Meridian, Mississippi. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret W. and Dr. John W. Wilks, Roanoke, Va.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Frank Y. Whitfield Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Herbert and Ruth Whitfield, Greenville, Tenn., and Ted and Lucia Whitfield, Alpharetta; two brothers, William Barefield, Crestview, Fla., and Clark Barefield, Enterprise, Ala.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. WILHELM, Olen A., 92, of Eagle Rock, died Friday, June 23, 1995. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Frances Wilhelm of Roanoke, and a son, Lewis Wilhelm of Eagle Rock.
