Dolly Parton favorite wins singer trip
RADFORD - Sheila Gallimore of Floyd was the winner of the True Value-Jimmy Dean Country Showdown last Sunday at New River Valley Speedway.
Gallimore sang the Dolly Parton favorite ``I Will Always Love You,'' a song she said she decided to perform at the last minute.
Second- and third-place winners were the bands Broken Reins and Surrender.
Billed as the world's largest country music talent contest and radio promotion, the showdown was presented locally by WBNK-FM and WNRV-AM and sponsored by Reed Lumber Company, B&L Truck Accessories and Pilot Homes.
Acts competed for prizes plus a chance to perform in the state showdown later this year. State winners receive $1,000 and advance to the regional finals.
Regional winners compete in the national competition for a grand prize of $50,000 and a recording contract.
