CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Domestic coal production totaled 18.7 million tons during the week ending July 1, down 7 percent from the 20.2 million tons produced the previous week, the U.S. Department of Energy reported Monday.
The U.S. coal industry produced 18.5 million tons in the same week last year, according to the department's Energy Information Administration.
Domestic coal production so far this year is 504 million tons, 2 percent ahead of last year's production at this time.
The week's production accounts for bituminous and lignite coal.

Shoney's makes restaurant deal
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Shoney's Inc. will sell 60 of its Lee's Famous Recipe chicken restaurants to RTM Restaurant Group of Atlanta, the company said Monday.
The terms of the agreement were not released, but Shoney's said it expected the deal to close by the end of September, pending approval of its board and lenders.
C. Stephen Lynn, chairman and chief executive officer of Shoney's, said the sale is part of the company's effort to focus on its main restaurant concept.
