BLUE RIDGE IMMEDIATE CARE

Owner: A group of 10 area physicians: Drs. Michael Barry, Russell Davis Jr., Scott Jamison, Daniel Kelly, Scott Kincaid, Thad Lee, William Mayo, Robert Solomon, Gregory Still and Fred Troxel

Location: 600 Randolph St. in Radford, at the Family Practice Clinic

Phone: 731-1983

Hours: 6 to 9 p.m. on weekdays; 1 to 6 p.m. on weekends

Products and Services: Blue Ridge Immediate Care offers medical attention after regular office hours for patients who know they need to see a doctor but who are not sick or injured enough to go to a hospital emergency room.

Background: In an age of rising medical costs and health maintenance organizations, it was perhaps only a matter of time before something like Blue Ridge Immediate Care opened in the New River Valley. Similar facilities have started throughout the country, though some have closed because of a lack of patients.

What makes Blue Ridge Immediate Care different from other area facilities is that it already has a patient base. All of the doctors have practices in the area. Thus, when patients need after-hours care, they have an option other than an emergency room.

The doctors started Blue Ridge Immediate Care after being swamped with patients during their limited evening and weekend hours. After opening in June, business is starting to pick up, they report.
