Airport spokesman Mark Courtney said the first half of 1994 was unusual because airlines steeply discounted their fares. He said the number of passengers boarding planes is ahead of 1993, which was a more normal year.
The June report of 29,901 was off 14.81 percent from 35,101 in June 1994.
Air cargo, on the other hand, continued to rise. The Roanoke airport handled 12,738 tons of cargo through June this year, an increase of 58.73 percent from last year's 8,025 tons.
The airport reported handling 2,069.88 tons in June, compared with 1,580.19 tons in the same month a year ago.
