THE `E' IN E-MAIL COULD MEAN `EDUCATION'

Got electronic mail? You can take freshman English at Virginia Western almost without leaving your home computer.

E-mail English is one of the distance-learning courses offered this fall by Virginia Western Community College. The courses are designed to give students an opportunity to complete courses in their homes on a flexible schedule.

E-mail English covers traditional English 111 material via electronic mail. Students will meet on campus several times, including the first and last sessions, but most of the course will be conducted online. Students will use e-mail to complete their assignments and interact with the instructor and each other.

Also available are Art Appreciation 100, in which students will use a series of videotapes as study materials, and three courses broadcast on WBRA public television: Elementary Statistics 157, Principles of Marketing 100 and Concepts of Personal and Community Health 110.

Call John Capps, 857-7386, for information on the English class, Sherrye Lantz, 857-7255, for information on the art class, and Patty Willhite, 857-7315 for information on the television courses.

Registration began Monday. Go to the admissions office to register in person, or, to register by phone, see the instructions in the schedule of classes published Saturday in The Roanoke Times, July 15. Here are the class ID numbers: art, 1068; English, 1865; health, 1871; marketing, 1872; and statistics, 1873.
