BOAZ, Dr. Martha T., 83, of Martinsville, formerly of Patrick Co., died Monday, July 24, 1995. Graveside service 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nettle Ridge United Methodist Church, Stuart. Arrangements by Moody Funeral Services, Inc.

BROWN, Robert I., (""R. I.""), 98, of 134 12th St., N.W., Pulaski, died Monday morning, July 24, 1995, at his home. He was born in Belsprings, Va. on August 1, 1896 and he was the son of the late Robert A. Brown and Antionette Morgan Brown. Mr. Brown was a retired attorney in Pulaski, Va., having practiced law in Pulaski for 55 years. Mr. Brown served as County Judge for Pulaski County in which he served in the Unites State Army. He was a member of the Pulaski American Legion Post #7, Pulaski Elks Lodge and the First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski. Mr. Brown donated the Memorial Tablet for WWI veterans, which was placed i n Jackson Park, Pulaski, Va. Surviving are his wife, Dorrence C. Brown, Pulaski; daughter, Nancy B. McGhee, Collinsville, Va.; son, Robert C. Brown, Stafford, Va.; half sister, Stella F. Brown, Belsprings, Va.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Va., with Dr. Manson B. Tate officiating. The Pulaski VFW Post #1184 will conduct the military graveside rites. Visiting will be Tuesday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The family wishes that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice. CAMPBELL, The Rev. Frances E., 81, of Brandon Oaks, Roanoke, died at her home Tuesday, July 18, 1995. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, from St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Christiansburg, conducted by the Rt. Rev. A. Heath Light. Cremation arrangements were handled by Richardson-Horne in Christiansburg.

CARROLL, Kevin Lee, 41, of Roanoke, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 23, 1995. He was a dedicated member of the Mount Pleasant Recreation Club, where he was devoted to Youth Sports, and was an employee of Tom's Vending Company. Surviving are his wife, Kay Carroll; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian and Tiffany Carroll, Cory Carroll; two brothers, Michael Carroll and Patrick Carroll; mother-in-law, Ruby B. Simpson; two very loving friends, Gus and Sharon Gustafson, all of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 1995, with the Rev. Elliott Hipp officiating. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Mount Pleasant Recreation Club, C/O, Gary Walthall, 1421 Ashebrook Dr., Roanoke, Va. 24014. FOSTER, Edna Vinyard, 81, of Vinton, died at her home Monday, July 24, 1995. She was a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church and had worked at C. W. Francis & Company and Overby, Ailstock, & Body Realtors. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Vinyard Stephenson and Ellen F. Stephenson, Vinton; one granddaughter, Amy Jane Stephenson, Vinton; niece, Gail Oliver Palmer, Charlotte, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Evergreen Burial Park at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Ed West officiating. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

FRYE, Laura Myrtis Gunter, 85, of Roanoke, and formerly of Langley, S.C., passed away Monday, July 24, 1995. She was a daughter of the late Amos Banks and Lula Dean Gunter. She was the first woman stenographer employed by the mill offices in the Langley, S.C. area and later was manager of the Burnettown Elementary Cafeteria for 17 years. She was a member of Langley First Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore Harold Frye. Surviving are a daughter, Carol Dean Goad, Roanoke; a son, J. Edward Frye, Langley, S.C.; a granddaughter, Natalie R. Goad, Fairfax; five grandsons, Darren M. Goad, Annandale, Brandon, Dylan, and Dean Frye, North Augusta, S.C., David Frye, Langley, S.C.; devoted nieces, Carolyn Smith Rowland and Helen Gunter Richardson; special friend, Blanche Williams. Funeral will be Thursday 2 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home, Langley, S.C.

GOODWIN, Annie Lillian, 68, of Natural Bridge Station, died Sunday, July 23, 1995 in Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Lexington. Miss Goodwin was born October 26, 1926 in Rockbridge County. She was the daughter of the late William Dolphus Goodwin and Mamie Goolsby Goodwin. Surviving are one sister, Mildred G. Stoner, Natural Bridge Station; two brothers, Martin Goolsby, Glasgow, Jesse C. Goodwin, Buchanan. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 26, 1995 at 2 p.m. from the graveside at the High Bridge Presbyterian Cemetery, with the Rev. R. S. Tomlin officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.

GROSECLOSE, Herbert Blair, 82, of Route 1, Ceres, died Monday morning, July 24, 1995, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Dodd and Katie Groseclose. He was a retired truck driver with Hennis Freight lines in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was a member of the Bland Masonic Lodge No. 206 A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, Ruth King Groseclose of the home; daughters, Shirley Bruce and Marsha Penley, both of Ceres; seven grandchildren, Chris Penley, Faith Penley, Meagan Penley, Eleanor Bruce, Joy Bruce, Dixie Bruce, Patrick Bruce, all of Ceres; one great-granddaughter, Hayley Penley, Ceres. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 26, at 2 p.m. at the Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dale Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany Cemetery. Bland Masonic Lodge No. 206 A.F. & A.M. will conduct graveside rites. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service. HALL, Raymond, 76, of Rocky Mount, passed away Sunday, July 23, 1995. Surviving are three daughters, Alvie Dillon, Virginia Hall, Linda Luellen, all of Richmond; one son, Harry Lee Hall, Henry; one stepson, Tom Henry Hodges, one stepdaughter, Mary Underwood, all of Bassett; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Myrtle and Willie Wright, Gracie and Ruben (Pumphouse) Cundiff, Ellen and Whity McGhee, Peggy and Gilbert Hodges, Betty and Alex Hood, Frances and Kenny Hodges, all of Rocky Mount; one brother, Junior Hall, Rocky Mount; also 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a great-niece, Stephanie Pagans; special friends, Ruby Young and Elton Underwood. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 1995, at Arrington-Bussey Chapel, with the Rev. Joe Crandall officiating. Interment will follow in the Hall Family Cemetery. JOHNSON, James Edward, (``Ed""), 85, of Vinton, died Monday, July 24, 1995 in a local hospital. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Army Combat Engineers in the European Theatre and retired from Tinnell's Finer Foods. He was an active member, Deacon and choir member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Scott Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Charlie Davis; two grandchildren, Sarah and Blaine Davis, all of Vinton; a sister, Carlie Johnson, Vinton; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 1995, with the Rev. Jay D. Owens officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lynn Haven Baptist Church Building Fund. LONG, Melvin Randolph, 67, of Salem, died Monday, July 24, 1995 in the Salem Veterans Hospital. He had retired as a Stone Cutter with Marsteller Corp. where he had worked for over 20 years. He was an Army Korean Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Ramona Hill Long; a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis R. and Dianne L. Long of Salem; two granddaughters, Nicole A. Long and Crystal G. Caudill both of Salem; two sisters, Betty Rose of Martinsville and Barbara Craighill of Salem. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel, Salem, with the Rev. Keith Johnston and Rev. Michael L. Slaughter officating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The family would like to thank the Salem Veterans Hospital and Dr. Thomas Eldridge and his medical staff and the two dedicated ICU nurses that helped our family through this difficult time. MARTIN, Harry, (""Dee""), 92, of Roanoke, died Monday, July 24, 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie L. Martin, a son, Harold Martin, a daughter, Norma Epperley and a grandson, Martin L. Wood. Mr. Martin was a charter member and deacon emeritus of Mayflower Hills Baptist Church. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond (""Jack"") and Rita F. Martin, Roanoke, Charles H. and Pat Martin, Northern Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Pat Millehan, Naomi and Vernon Jamison, all of Roanoke, Leona and Don Haymaker, Wanda Joyce and Chuck Myers, Betty and Bill Wood, all of Moneta, June and Carlton Alcorn, Georgia; 23 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; one brother, Ted Martin; three sisters, Mary Kessinger, Nell Fisher, Beck Pyles, all of Covington. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 1995, in Mayflower Hills Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Don Dyer will officiate. McGRADY, Guy Milton Sr., 65, of Barren Springs, died Sunday, July 23, 1995, in Duke University Hospital, Durham, N.C. He was born in Wythe County December 19, 1929, son of the late Herman McGrady and Flora Frost McGrady. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jane Ogle McGrady; daughter, Wilma Ann McGrady, Durham, N.C.; son and his wife, Guy Milton Jr. and Debra Kay McGrady; sister, Ruth Owens, Dublin; brothers, Jack and Harry McGrady, both of Hillsville; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 1995, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville. Interment will follow in Frost Cemetery, Barren Springs. PENDLETON, Susie J. Sutphin, 93, of Salem, died Sunday, July 23, 1995. She was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hayward L. Pendleton. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Glenn and Alice Pendleton, Lewis and Gladys Pendleton, all of Salem; one brother, Glenn Sutphin, Maryland; six grandchildren, Glenn Pendleton, Eric Pendleton, Terry Pendleton, Stephen Pendleton, Gayle Hodge, Susan Eanes; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. SWAIN, Nancy Anderson, 63, of Marion, died Sunday, July 23, 1995, in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was a very active member of the South Fork Baptist Church and was a member of the Leesburg Baptist Church in Leesburg for 40 years before moving to Marion. Mrs. Swain retired from C & P Telephone Company after 30 years of service. She worked with the Smyth County Adult Literacy Enrichment Program and was a Director of Mt. CAP. She was a member and current President of the Business & Professional Women of Chilhowie. She was Past Noble Grand and member of the Marion Rebekah Lodge #42. In the Loudoun Rebekah Lodge #46, she was Past Noble Grand, District Deputy President, Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant, IOOF 1, Alexandria #1 and President Association #8. She is survived by her husband, W. Clark Swain of Marion; two sons, W. Albert Swain, Leesburg, and Jeffrey Clark Swain, Bakersville, N.C.; one sister, Beulah Anderson, Chilhowie; one brother, Douglas Anderson, Saltville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 26, 1995 at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Mark Totten officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery in Chilhowie. WALKER, Clara Edna Greene, 75, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, July 23, 1995, at Elder Care Gardens in Charlottesville. Born in Rockbridge County on December 13, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Charlie F. and Molly Huffman Greene. She was a member of the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church. She is survived by a son, Gary Lee Greene, Lexington; two sisters, Gladys Tomaine and Marion Carpenter, both of Standardsville; an uncle, Douglas Huffman, Buena Vista; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, at the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. David Bain officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
