EARNINGS

Kelly Services

Kelly Services Inc., Troy, Mich.-based temporary staffing company with offices in Blacksburg, Martinsville and Roanoke, reported second-quarter net income of $16.7 million, or 44 cents per share, on earnings from operations of $24.9 million compared with year-earlier $14.4 million, or 38 cents per share, on earnings from operations of $21.6 million.

Ingersoll-Rand

Ingersoll-Rand Co., Woodcliff Lake, N.J., company operating a Rock Drill Division in Roanoke County, reported second-quarter net income of $67 million, or 63 cents per share, on sales of $1.39 billion compared with year-earlier $52 million, or 49 cents per share, on sales of $1.14 billion. For the six months, net income was $112 million, or $1.07 per share, on sales of $2.57 billion compared with year-earlier $84 million, or 80 cents per share, on sales of $2.15 billion.

Noland

Noland Co., Newport News-based distributor of equipment to the building trades with operations in Roanoke, reported second-quarter net income of $1.9 million, or 52 cents per share, on sales of $123.6 million compared with year earlier $1.6 million, or 43 cents per share, on sales of $115.9 million. For the six months net income was $3 million, or 81 cents per share, on sales of $235.3 million, compared with year-earlier $1.8 million, or 50 cents per share, on sales of $212.9 million.

Pittston

Pittston Minerals Group, a separately traded division of the Pittston Co. of Greenwich, Conn., which mines coal in Southwest Virginia, reported net income of $4.6 million in the second quarter, or 45 cents per share, on revenues of $184.2 million, compared with net income a year earlier of $6.8 million, or 72 cents per share, on revenues of $202.1 million. For the six months, net income was $5.1 million, or 51 cents per share, on revenues of $380 million, compared with a net loss last year of $67.3 million, equal to $9.20 a share, on revenues of $378.9 million.

Premier Bankshares

Premier Bankshares Corp. of Bluefield reported second-quarter income of $1.988 million or 40 cents a share, slightly better than $1.986 million or 40 cents a share for the same period in 1994.

Assets grew to $754.7 million, primarily as a result of the purchase of seven branch offices from NationsBank in the second quarter of this year. The purchase added assets of $116 million.
