CHRISTIANSBURG - Art work, art prints and collectibles are being sought by the Montgomery County Friends of the Library. These items, along with circulating framed art prints from county libraries, will be used for a silent auction at the Blacksburg and Christiansburg branches.
The items will be displayed for bidding from Monday to Sept. 7 during library hours. Bidding will close Sept. 7 at 8:30 p.m.
Proceeds from the art sale will go toward furnishings for the Blacksburg library and computer desks for the Christiansburg library.
Volunteers needed
CHRISTIANSBURG - Volunteers are needed at Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the New River Valley and at the Women's Resource Center.
A volunteer orientation meeting for Big Brothers/Big Sisters is set for Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Christiansburg branch of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library, on Sheltman Street. Volunteers must be at least 18, have access to a vehicle and be able to serve at least four hours a week for one year or three semesters if a student. Two forms of photographic identification are required. Call 381-0662 for more information.
The Women's Resource Center will have volunteer training beginning Sept. 5. Volunteers will staff crisis lines, perform client advocacy, and work in children's programming and youth recreation. Call 639-1123 for more information.
