NAMES & CHANGES

EDWARD J. MACHADO has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer of Roanoke-based Shenandoah Life Insurance Co.

Machado comes from Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia, where he was vice president, finance, government and individual business center, for four years. He previously worked for Rhode Island Group Health Association and General Electric Co. Shenandoah Life is a mutual life insurance company operating in 20 states and the District of Columbia.

BANKING

DAVID R. PEERY has been promoted to vice president in the personal trust and investment management division of NationsBank in Roanoke. In his new position, Peery has account responsibilities throughout Southwestern Virginia. He joined NationsBank in 1977.

CAROL S. LIGHT has been appointed vice president at Central Fidelity Bank in Roanoke. She joined the bank in March as manager of mortgage processing for the southwestern region of the mortgage division. Light most recently was assistant vice president with NationsBanc Mortgage.

LINDA KOLODA has been promoted to assistant vice president at Southwest Virginia Savings Bank. She joined the bank in 1965 and is now loan processing operations manager of the mortgage origination office in southwest Roanoke County. DORIS CUSTER also has been promoted to assistant vice president. Having joined the bank in 1966, she is loan closing operations manager at the main office in downtown Roanoke.

COLLEGES

JAMES W. AREND, senior vice president of Atlantic Mutual Cos., has been appointed to a four-year term on the Virginia Western Community College local advisory board representing Roanoke County.

CONTRACTORS

THOMAS G. McCLUNG has joined J.M. Turner & Co. Inc., a Roanoke-based general contractor, as director of business development. McClung, formerly with McClung's lumber and building supplies, is responsible for marketing at J.M. Turner.

GOVERNMENT

WENDY C. WINGO was recently elected first vice president of the Virginia Association of Planning District Commissions. Wingo, who is on the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors, is chairman of the Fifth Planning District Commission. WAYNE G. STRICKLAND, executive director of the Fifth Planning District Commission, was elected second vice president of the association.

HEALTH CARE

REBECCA P. SPARGER of Marion has been promoted to supervisor of CorVel Corp.'s new Abingdon office. Sparger has been with the managed-care company for three years as a rehabilitation specialist in their Wytheville office. With the addition of the new branch office, DEEANNA K. MABE of Wytheville has been promoted to district manager over the Wytheville and Abingdon offices.

INSURANCE

At Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield, RODNEY G. COLINGER has been promoted to president, Commonwealth of Virginia account. In his new position, Colinger will oversee the daily operations for Trigon's largest single account, the Commonwealth of Virginia. Colinger joined Trigon in 1978 and formerly was general manager of the company's Federal Employee Program in Roanoke.

NONPROFITS

The River Foundation, the private, nonprofit capital construction fund-raising arm of Virginia's Explore Park, has elected four new members to its board: TALFOURD H. KEMPER of Woods, Rogers & Hazlegrove in Roanoke; GEORGE W. LOGAN of Salem; FRANK C. MARTIN JR. of Martin Research in Roanoke; and THOMAS L. ROBERTSON of Carilion Health System.

MARC E. TAUBMAN of Roanoke and VANN J. DEAS of Goode have been appointed by Gov. George Allen to the Virginia Recreational Facilities Authority board, which owns and governs Explore Park. Taubman is vice president of Roanoke-based Advance Stores Co. Inc. and owner of Art of Universal Movement Publishing, a graphic arts and jewelry designer and manufacturer.

At Explore Park, SCOTT W. SARVER has been selected as the park's 18th century program coordinator, and historic interpreter KIM BURNETTE has been named acting education director to replace GINNY LAUBINGER, who recently resigned.

ED CALLIS has been elected president of the board of directors of the Clean Valley Council in Roanoke. Callis, who is manager of store operation services for The Kroger Co., Mid-Atlantic Region, succeeds ALLAN C. ROBINSON JR. Also elected to the executive committee as vice president is NANCY BAILEY, coordinator of the solid waste division in Roanoke County. OWEN M. GROGAN JR., retired from Roanoke Department of Parks and Recreation, has been elected secretary/treasurer.

REAL ESTATE

JON R. SPICER has joined Wingate and Co. as a residential real estate appraiser. Spicer has been an appraiser since 1983, most recently with Appraisal Consultants Associates.
