BARTON, Rachel Lorraine, 72, of Salem, died Friday, August 4, 1995. She was a member of Salem Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Barton is survived by her husband, G.B. (Gladice) Barton, Salem; three daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca Barton, Wirtz, Millie Barton and Philip Taylor, Greensboro, N.C., Susan Jones, Rocky Mount; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Debra Barton, Salem; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Joyce Flowers, Columbus, Ga., Charles and Barbara Flowers, Radcliff, Ky.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and K.W. Lee, Rancho Cordovo, Calif.; Betty and Ronald Warden, Rock, W. Va.; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, August 7, 1995 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. BATEMAN, Trudy Virginia, 42, of Roanoke, died Thursday, August 3, 1995 at her home. She was a lifelong member of Central Church of the Brethren. She had many interests including outdoor activities and volunteering with the Church of the Brethren Disaster Relief, Rescue Mission and serving on her church's witness commission. Surviving are her father and mother, Willis and Eunice Bateman, Roanoke; two sisters, Pam Green and Kay Carr, Roanoke; two nephews, John Green and David Green; two nieces, Melissa Carr and Karen Carr, all of Roanoke; five aunts, Dorothy Cletis Richards, Roanoke, Pauline Diehl McGaheysville, Va., Ernestine Bateman, Roanoke, Evelyn Miles, Lynchburg, Frances Lang, Green Valley, Ariz.; an d many close friends, including Chris Pappas, Susan Grey, April Lail, Shelby Weikle and Hedy Crosswhite, all of Roanoke. Private services were held at the grave at Evergreen Burial Park, Saturday, August 5, 1995. A memorial service will be held at the Central Church of the Brethren 1 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 1995. BUCHANAN, Lila B. ""Tiddle,"" 95, of Rich Valley, died Saturday, August 5, 1995, in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. Mrs. Buchanan was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Buchanan, and two sons, Tate Buchanan and Patrick Buchanan. She was a life long native of the Rich Valley Community and a member of the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church, serving as Adult Sunday School Teacher. She was educated at Columbia University and worked in the field of dentistry in New York City and West Virginia. She also served as a Principal and School Teacher in the early 1900s. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy B. Durham, Blountstown, Fla.; three sons, Raymond Buchanan, Rich Valley, Richard Buchanan, Glade Spring, and Preston Buchanan, Cedar Bluff; a special family member, Al Carter, Broadford, Va.; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeffrey Jones and Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Tom Buchanan, Rick Buchanan, Jeff Buchanan, Tim Buchanan, Ira Buchanan, David Buchanan, Bo Buchanan, and David Barns will serve as Pallbearers. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the D. R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville. DOSS, Orville Lee, 73, of Roanoke, died Saturday, August 5, 1995, at the VA Medical Center. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired from the VA Hospital, Salem. Surviving are his wife, June M. Doss; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Gale Doss, Hardy, Michael Bruce and Barbara Ann Doss, Callaway; a daughter, Shirley Anne Stacey, Roanoke; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Annie McMillion, Wynona, W.Va., Frances Ball, Roanoke, Ruby Jackson, Vinton, Betty Jean Maddox, Princeton, W.Va.; a brother, Clyde William Doss, Roanoke. GOAD, William Ward, 70, of Dugspur, died Friday, August 4, 1995, in the VA Medical Center, Salem. Born July 7, 1925 in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Lonnie Goad and Tobitha Moles Goad. He is survived by one brother, Keith Goad of Dugspur; five sisters, Arneda Mesics of Dugspur, Olive Goad of Dugspur, Agnes Ignudo of Wilmington, Del., Sarah Lou Vaughan of Stuart, Rita Jean Shrophshire of Ridgeway; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral 1 p.m. Monday, August 7, 1995, at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, with the Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Kemp Cemetery. HALEY, Agnes McMullen, 84, of Roanoke, passed away Friday evening, August 4, 1995 in a local hospital. She was the daughter of Omer C. and Anna G. McMullen; and widow of Hugh H. NEWMAN, Hazel Carter, 90, of Lancaster, Calif., formerly of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 2, 1995. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Jean McGlynn. She was the beloved mother of H. Morgan Newman, Seattle, Wash., Harry C. Newman, Salem, Carol Kempkes, Lancaster, Calif., Phyllis Anne McGhee, Lynchburg; beloved grandmother of 11 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. OVERSTREET, Elsie Anderson, 84, of Lynchburg, died Friday, August 4, 1995, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Elmer L. Overstreet. Born on October 10, 1910, she was a daughter of the late John Lewis Anderson and the late Carrie Waller Anderson. Mrs. Overstreet was a retired school teacher for the Roanoke County School System. She was an active member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also held memberships with the Lions Club and the Civic Club. She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary O. Ziegler of Stone Mountain, Ga.; Helena O. Saun ders of Lynchburg; two sisters, Opal Godsey of Madison Heights, Mary Sue Childress of Lynchburg; six grandchildren. Mrs. Overstreet was preceded in death by her son, Elmer L. ``Sonny'' Overstreet Jr. and a grandson. Funeral services will be held on Monday at the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Roanoke, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, Lynchburg, and on Sunday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Lotz Funeral Home, Franklin Rd., Roanoke, and at other times at the residence of her daughter, 550 Leesville Rd., Lynchburg.
