$147 STOLEN FROM MAN IN ATTACK

A 29-year-old Lynchburg man was robbed and beaten early Tuesday by four people in the 800 block of Marshall Avenue Southwest. According to the police, the victim said one of his assailants called him a homosexual epithet before the attack.

The victim was treated for multiple cuts to his face and head at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The robbers took $147 from his wallet, police said.

In another incident, the Stop In Food Store at 9th Street and Orange Avenue Northeast was robbed at gunpoint early Monday.

Police gave this account: About 3:45 a.m. a man wearing one black glove approached the cashier window asking for change for a dollar.

The man pointed a chrome handgun at the employee on duty and demanded money. The employee handed the man an undetermined amount of cash and the man fled southbound on Hollins Road Northeast.

The employee described the suspect as a black man, in his 20s, between 5-foot-10-inches and 6 feet tall. He wore dark pants, a blue T-shirt and a blue baseball cap and had a scar from the left corner of his mouth to his left ear.
