INTERESTED IN REC SPORTS? HERE'S HOW TO SIGN UP

There's a variety of recreational sports leagues in the Roanoke Valley for children, teens, adults and seniors. Both clinics and competition are offered in many sports.

Following is a partial list of what's available. For information on Roanoke adult leagues, call 981-1111, and 981-1110 for youth leagues. For information on Roanoke County leagues, call 387-6338 or 387-6339.

Softball, T-ball and baseball

Roanoke youth T-ball (ages 6-7), baseball (ages 8-17) and fast-pitch softball (ages 7-18) registration begins in January.

Roanoke County youth baseball and softball sign-ups are in February.

Roanoke adult co-rec softball registration begins in mid-summer. Registration for other Roanoke leagues - open, church, industrial and women's fast pitch - are in March.

Salem Dixie Youth League baseball and softball sign-ups are in March.

Roanoke County adult spring softball sign-ups are in March. Sign-ups for fall leagues are in July and August.

Salem adult softball - open, church, industrial, and men's fast pitch - practices begin in May. Coed fall recreational softball begins in September.

Football

Roanoke youth football (ages 6-16) and cheerleading (ages 5-14) sign-ups begin in June.

Roanoke County youth football and cheerleading sign-ups are in May and June.

Salem sandlot football (ages 7-12) sign-ups are in August.

Roanoke adult touch football registration is in August.

Salem adult touch football registration is in August.

Soccer

Roanoke youth outdoor soccer (ages 6-17) sign-ups begin in June.

Roanoke County youth outdoor soccer sign-ups are in May and June.

Roanoke youth indoor soccer (boys, girls and coed, 6-17) sign-ups are in the fall.

Salem youth soccer sign-ups are in April.

Basketball

Roanoke youth basketball (boys and girls, 6-17) sign-ups begin in September.

Roanoke County youth basketball sign-ups are in October.

Salem youth basketball sign-ups, for boys and girls 7-14, are in January. Boys and girls AAU sign-ups also are in January.

Roanoke adult basketball league registration are in September. Men's and women's and three-on-three leagues are available.

Salem adult basketball (church and industrial teams) registration begins in August.

Volleyball

The Roanoke Valley Volleyball Association offers year-round coed six-on-six leagues as well as outdoor doubles and other tournaments. Training clinics are also available. For more information, call Glenn Adcock, 427-0883.

Tennis

Numerous youth tennis tournaments and clinics are held in the Roanoke Valley. Contact your parks and recreation department for information on specific events.

Miscellaneous
