ARMSTRONG WINS WORLD CUP BIKE RACE

Going from last place to first in three years, Lance Armstrong, winner of this year's Tour DuPont, scored his first victory in a World Cup bicycle race Saturday in the Clasica San Sebastian.

In his initial race as a professional, in San Sebastian in 1992, Armstrong finished 111th, dead last and 11 minutes behind the rider in 110th place. The American captain of the Motorola team was an easy winner in Spain on Saturday, completing the 234 kilometers (143 miles) in 5 hours, 31 minutes, 17 seconds, or 2 seconds faster in the final sprint than Stefano Della Santa, an Italian with the Mapei team.

The Winnipeg Jets are expected to head to the United States after this season, with Minneapolis the likely destination and Nashville, Tenn., also a possibility.

``There is no chance this team can be moved for the coming season,'' said Barry Shenkarow, president of the NHL club. ``It's just an impossibility.''

Shenkarow said a Minnesota group headed by Richard Burke and Steven Gluckstern will have the first shot at the NHL team. Burke and Gluckstern nearly acquired the team last spring before a Manitoba civic group worked out a deal that fell apart Monday.
