SUSPECT STILL IN HOSPITAL AFTER CRASH

The man who crashed his van on Interstate 81 Tuesday night after leading police on a 90-mph chase was in satisfactory condition Wednesday at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, police said.

Police still are not releasing the man's name because he has not been charged, Roanoke police said.

The man fled from police when they tried to pull him over on Woods Avenue Southwest, a news release said.

An officer was investigating a woman's claim that the man had been harassing her by leaving flowers for her at work and waiting outside for her.

Just then, the man drove by.

When the officer tried to pull the van over, it sped away, according to the release.

The chase continued down Franklin Road, then north on U.S. 220 to Interstate 581 and finally I-81, where the van crashed into a guardrail near the Botetourt County line.
