Piedmont Trust promotes Russell

WILLIAM H. RUSSELL III has been promoted to senior vice president-trust of Piedmont Trust Bank in Martinsville. He previously was vice president and senior trust officer. In his new position, Russell manages the bank's trust department and coordinates trust activities and operations for the the bank's holding company, Piedmont BankGroup Inc.

Russell joined Piedmont Trust in 1991.

BUILDING SUPPLIES

TIMOTHY K. GAY was recently promoted to kitchen and bath specialist at Moore's Lumber and Building Supplies on Franklin Road in Roanoke. Gay has been in sales with Moore's for six years. The Roanoke-based company sells lumber and building supplies to consumers and contractors at 52 stores in 10 states.

CREDIT UNIONS

ANTHONY C. "A.C." FRANCIS and ROBERTA K. "BOBBIE" LEVINE have been appointed assistant vice president of N&W Federal Credit Union in Roanoke. Francis will assist in the daily operations and management of the credit union's Southwest Plaza office on Virginia 419. Levine joins the credit union with management experience from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. She will work at the main office.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Authority has elected the following officers for 1995-96: ROBERT CROCKETT, public affairs manager of the Westvaco Corp. bleached board division, chairman; JANET D. NELSON, former member of the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors, vice chairman; and BILL LEICHTER, retired district ranger for the U.S. Forest Service, secretary-treasurer. SHELBY ROCK, owner of Woody's Auto Parts in Covington, and TOM DEAN, owner of Racey & Dean Insurance and Real Estate Agency, have been appointed to two-year terms on the authority's board of directors.

ENVIRONMENTAL

STEVE WOODYARD has joined Earth Reach Environmental Consultants Inc. in Rocky Mount as project geologist. Woodyard has been in the environmental consulting field for seven years, most recently with CRC Environmental Risk Management in California. In his new position, he also will coordinate asbestos inspection, management and design projects.

GRANVILLE "GRA" AMOS JR. has joined Environmental Directions Inc.'s corporate offices in Roanoke as an environmental specialist, marketing the company's stationary and mobile analytical, remediation and consulting services.

Gov. George Allen has announced the following board appointments: LINDA T. FRECE of Roanoke, vice president of corporate student lending at First Union National Bank, board of the Virginia Student Assistance Authorities; JEAN STEPHENSON ADAMS of Martinsville, vice chairwoman of the Martinsville Electoral Board; V. CAROLE LOUGHEED of Roanoke, president and director of the Medical Society of Virginia Alliance; LARRY M. CARTER of Henry County, sales representative with Chemsearch Corp., board of trustees of the Virginia Museum of Natural History; FREDERICK L. HILLIARD of Radford, program director of the New River Resource Authority, board for waste management facility operators; NANCY M. BURCHETT of Pulaski County, management services director for Pulaski County, Local Government Advisory Committee to the Council on Information Management; and BELINDA C. TURNER of Roanoke, collection and recovery specialist with First Union Bank, Council on the Status of Women.

MANUFACTURING

RICHARD MINICHBAUER has been appointed vice president of human resources at Stanley Furniture Co. From corporate headquarters in Stanleytown, he will oversee the human resource departments of Stanley's five manufacturing plants. Before joining the company, Minichbauer worked at Black & Decker Corp. for 11 years. Before that, he held several human resources positions with Bendix Corp., including personnel manager at the company's Charlotte, N.C., plant.

Westvaco Corp. has announced organizational changes at its bleached board division in Covington: KEN BERTRAM has been promoted to paper mill superintendent with responsibility for paper machines 1 and 2. AL MILDENBERGER, paper mill superintendent for machines 5, 6 and 8 and support operations, also will be responsible for Printkote development and rewind operations. ANDY SECKNER will transfer from supervisor of the No. 8 paper machine to supervisor of the No. 2 machine. ROD STRONG will transfer from power department superintendent to supervisor of the No. 8 paper machine. MIKE CLAPPER will be superintendent of the combined power and recovery departments.

MEDIA

DON GORDON FISHER has been appointed local sales manager of WJPR/WFXR Fox 21/27 in Roanoke. He previously worked in a similar position at WLFL Fox 22 in Raleigh, N.C. Fisher will be responsible for all local and regional sales.

NONPROFITS

The Science Museum of Western Virginia has elected six new members to three-year terms on its board of trustees: BILL GREENE, professor of architecture at Virginia Tech; CYNTHIA DILLION, president of Design Marketing; JUDY HAGADORN, president of the Lewis-Gale Foundation; SEN. MALFOURD "BO" TRUMBO; WILLIAM H. SLEDD, director of marketing for Cox Cable Roanoke; and DR. WILLIAM J. DICHTEL JR., president of the Roanoke Academy of Medicine.

JEFF LEE has been appointed general manager of Plywood & Plastics Inc. in Roanoke. The Richmond-based company supplies hardware, laminate and wood products to the cabinet industry.
