RULEY, Nannie B., 77, of Lexington, died Friday, August 18, 1995 in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She was born on January 20, 1918 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Sydney Bare and Nattie (Tolley) Bare. Mrs. Ruley was a former employee of the VMI laundry service. She was a member of the Lauderdale ARP Church was also a member of the Fairfield Senior Citizens. Mrs. Ruley was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Ruley. Survivors include a son, Anthony P. Ruley, Lexington; a daughter, Joyce L. Higgins, Lexington; a brother, Luther Bare; four sisters, Henrietta B. White, Baltimore, Maryland, Mable B. Walters, Lexington, Judy B. Wolfe, Buchanan, Alice B. Carmichael, Alden, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a very dear friend, Sue Montgomery, Lexington. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 21, 1995, at 2 p.m. in the Williams Funeral Service Chapel, Lexington, with the Rev. Zeb Carson Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 1995 at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by the Williams Funeral Service, Lexington.

BAILEY, Margaret Strum, of Roanoke, died Friday, August 18, 1995, in a local hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Bailey Jr. Mrs. Bailey was a member of Airlee Court Baptist Church, the Hillcrest Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Round Hill Garden Club. Surviving are her children, Charles H. Bailey and wife, Margaret, Dolores B. Rorrer and husband, Bill, LaVerne B. Dillon and husband, Bobby, all of Roanoke, James J. Bailey III and wife, Mina, Orlando, Fla.; four granddaughters, Debbie, Barbara, Kimberly, and Jamilyn; several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m., Monday, at Oakey's North Chapel by the Rev. John Hamric. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel.

BOOTHE, Alma L., 85, of Floyd, passed away Friday, August 18, 1995 in Friendship Manor in Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy J. Boothe and a daughter, Jesseleen Hylton. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Venda Boothe, Roanoke, Andy J. Jr. and Peggy Boothe, Roanoke; son-in-law, Kavilla Hylton, Floyd; half sister, Loraine Sowers, Christiansburg; six grandchildren and spouses, Daryl and Wilma Hylton, Christiansburg, Sharon Kay and Russel Stump, Floyd, Amy Hylton, Floyd, Cheryl and Jeff Lunsford, Fincastle, Lisa and David Bess, Boones Mill, Vickey and Rick Smith, Puerto Rico; ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Rev. Roy Turpin officiating with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd, is in charge of arrangements.

BROWN, Viola Bailey, 91, of Roanoke, passed away at her home on Saturday, August 19, 1995. She was one of three surviving nurses who received their training at the Burrell Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Upon completing her studies she became a Registered Nurse and served the needs of patients at the old Burrell Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She will be remembered by the community as a loyal, dedicated and efficient nurse. She was the widow of James Brown. Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Bessie LeVere, Scottsburg; nephews, Joseph M. Bailey, Halifax, Gordon Coleman, Berkeley, Calif. and Gregory Goode, Nathalie; nieces, Jeane Conti and Clara Easley, Washington, D.C., Beulah Janey, Upper Marlboro, Md., Frances Sugg, Fredericksburg, and Yvette Davis, New Haven, Conn.; grand-nephews, Joseph Bailey III, Halifax, William Sugg, Fredericksburg, Derick and Verone Janey , Upper Mralboro, Md.; grand nieces, Cassaundra Smith, Cherry Hill, N.J., and Angela Sugg, Fredericksburg. Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

GOODWIN, Elizabeth Arlene McDowell, of Pearisburg, died Friday, August 18, 1995. Mrs. Goodwin was a member of the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church. She was past president of the Pearisburg Woman's Club and past president of the United Methodist Woman's Organization. She was born in Randolph County, W.Va. on May 1, 1915 and was a daughter of the late Sloan McDowell and Lura McGee McDowell. She is survived by her husband, James Chapman Goodwin of Pearisburg; two sons, James C. Goodwin II of Bridgeport, W.Va. and David Floyd Goodwin of Pearisburg; one sister, Letha McDowell of Morgantown, W.Va.; two grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted Monday, August 21, 1995 at 12:30 p.m. in the Pearisburg First United Methodist with the Rev. Freddrick Long officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

HORTON, Wilhelmina Gaines, (``Billie""), 100, of Blacksburg, passed away Saturday, August 19, 1995, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blacksburg. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Charter member of the P.E.O. Chapter H, former member of the Radford Womans Club, member & Ex Sect. of the Radford Red Cross. Survivors include, one son; Wendell Horton of Blacksburg; daughter-in-law, Alice T. Horton of Blacksburg. Memorial services will be held Monday, August 21, 1995, at 11 a.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church in Radford with the Rev. Claud W. McCauley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parrish Hall. Interment will be private in West View Cemetery in Radford. MILLER, Paul W., 86, of Roanoke County, died Friday, August 18, 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris S. Miller and was a faithful member of Red Hill Baptist Church. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Rachel Miller of Roanoke; a grandson, Michael Miller of New Jersey; a sister, Ruby Garner of Roanoke; a brother and sister-in-law, Alvin L. and Virginia P. Miller of Roanoke; nieces and nephews, Dwight L. Miller, Blacksburg, Ronald S. Brooks, Charleston, S. C., Coleen Mitchum and Carol Strausbaugh, both of Roanoke, Cynthia G. Gauldin, Eden, N. C. NEUROTH, Louise Jones, of Richmond, died Friday, August 18, 1995. She was the widow of Dr. Milton L. Neuroth. She is survived by three children, Grover C. Jones, Blacksburg, Robert W. Jones, Richmond, and Rhea Neuroth Baldino, Charlottesville; a sister, Thelma J. Smith, Richmond; three brothers, J. William Jones, Mechanicsville, Horace O. Jones, Topping, Va., and Donald E. Jones, Richmond; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Neuroth was a member of River Road Church Baptist and Past President of the Greetettes of Acca Temple Shrine. PHELPS, Jeannie, 76, of Salem, died Saturday, August 19, 1995. Surviving is a daughter, Venona Thompson, California; two grandsons, William R. Cato III, Jarrod W. Cato; one great-grandson, William R.
