GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS
The project calls for regrading Prices Fork Road to remove two treacherous
hills - one near the intersection of Merrimac Road, the other near M&M Tire.
The road will remain two-laned but will be straightened and widened to include
bike lanes and shoulders. Improvements will claim a number of large roadside
trees, including a row of century-old maples in front of the historic
Price-Johnson house. Also, parking lots at Prices Fork Elementary School and
several businesses will be altered. Brugh said complications posed by
re-routing Prices Fork Road's heavy traffic during construction will extend
the project's completion until next summer. Motorists should consider avoiding
bottlenecks by using U.S. 460 and Peppers Ferry Road as a detour, he advised.
