The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries established a 50-day, three-way split season with a four-per-day bag limit. State officials had the option of setting a five-per-day limit under federal guidelines, but chose a more conservative limit. Some hunters, who appeared at the department's hearing Thursday, wanted a three-per-day limit.
The hunting dates are Oct.11-14; Nov.21-25 and Dec. 11-Jan. 20.
The limit may include no more than one hen mallard, two wood ducks, two redheads, one pintail, one canvasback and one black duck.
The migrant Canada goose season was suspended in an effort to give this declining species an opportunity to rebound.
