MUSEUM EXHIBIT WILL HONOR CLAYTORS

The Virginia of Transportation is developing an exhibit honoring the memory of brothers Robert W. Claytor and W. Graham Claytor Jr.

The native Roanokers were dedicated to rail transportation.

Robert, former president of Norfolk & Western Railway and first chairman and CEO of Norfolk Southern, was instrumental in preserving and returning to operating condition the Class ``J,'' No. 611 and Class ``A,'' No. 1218 steam locomotives.

Graham Claytor, former president of the Southern Railway and Amtrak and Deputy Secretary of Defense under President Jimmy Carter, began the steam excursions on the Southern Railway in 1966.

The museum is seeking artifacts, letters, photographs or memorabilia for the exhibit. Those willing to share their information about the Claytor brothers are asked to contact David Bird at 342-5670.

Museum hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, noon-5 p.m.
