HILL LEADS CARROLL CO. IN OPENER

Junior Bethany Hill scored a game-high 16 points to lead three Carroll County players in double figures as the host Cavaliers downed Grayson County 75-29 in the first games of the girls' basketball season at the Lady Cavalier Tip-Off Invitational on Tuesday night.

The Cavaliers (1-0) used a man-to-man press to jump out to a 17-2 lead and never looked back. Junior Angie Farmer scored five of her 11 points in the first quarter. Senior Denean Jessup chipped in 10 for the Cavaliers.

Carroll County will play Rocky Gap today, and Grayson County (0-1) meets Radford.

HILLSVILLE - Tammy Cox scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the second half to lead Galax past Radford in the first round of the Lady Cavalier Tip-Off Invitational at Carroll County High School.

Galax (1-0) advances in the next round today where it will meet Christiansburg. Radford (0-1) takes on Grayson County.

The Maroon Tide used full-court pressure defense to open up an 11-point halftime lead. Tiffany Williams and Erin Kyle each added eight points for Galax.

Radford was led by Charlee Taylor, who scored 17 points.

Rocky Gap 37

HILLSVILLE - Christiansburg outscored Rocky Gap 21-6 in the second quarter after trailing early and went on to pull away from the Eagles in the Lady Cavalier Tip-Off Invitational at Carroll County High School.

Tish Campbell led all scorers with 22 points and Lisa Dalton added 14 for the Blue Demons (1-0), who will meet Galax today in the next round.

Rocky Gap (0-1), which will play host Carroll County today, was led by Amanda Clark, who scored a team-high nine points.
