RELIGION BRIEFS

THE ROANOKE VALLEY CROP WALK, which raises funds for the relief of hunger and poor nourishment in both the United States and abroad, will take place on Oct. 8. Seven major denominations - Church of the Brethren, Roman Catholic, Disciples of Christ, Episcopal, Lutheran, Presbyterian and United Methodist - have coordinators to promote the effort in their churches.

Volunteers to hike the approximately six miles through Southwest Roanoke, beginning in Smith Park, are needed as well as those who will donate money based on the walkers' distance achieved. The Rev. Mark W. Radecke and Debbie Denison are directing this year's efforts. Call 890-3128 for more information.

THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY of Grandin Court Baptist Church will be observed with guest pastors preaching in October. The Rev. Dr. Steve Spangler of Durham, N.C. will preach on Oct. 8. On Oct.15 and 22, respectively, retired former pastors, the Revs.Charles Watkins and Robert M. Hamner will preach. The Rev. Dr. Michael Clingenpeel, editor of The Religious Herald, will preach Oct.29.

A congregational birthday party will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 with the 50th anniversary dinner at 1 p.m. on Oct. 29 at Holiday Inn-Tanglewood.

JOHN SCOTT, organist at St. Paul's Cathedral in London, will perform Oct. 15 at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church in a 10th anniversary recital. No tickets are required , but an offering will be taken.

RED HILL BAPTIST CHURCH, 6251 Franklin Road, will hold a revival Sept. 10-13 at 7 p.m. each day. The revival speaker is the Rev. Rick Elmore. Pete and Barbara Roberts are the scheduled musical performers.

NEW GRACE, a Southern gospel group, will perform Saturday at 7 p.m. at Trinity Church of God Worship Center on Garden City Boulevard.

THE RAINBOW FOREST BAPTIST CHURCH choir and drama team will present the musical "Love Will Be Our Home," Sept. 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. at the church, 3485 Rainbow Forest Drive, Troutville. The musical is about dealing with hurting families, hurting marriages and hurting people. For more information, call 977-1789.

BETHLEHEM BIBLE COLLEGE will begin its fall session classes Sept. 10. Registration for the courses offered for teachers, lay speakers, missionaries and ministers will be held Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. at the college, 1578 Golfside Ave. N.W. Call 382-2586 for more information.

The Vinton Church of the Brethren, 711 Dale Ave. will hold a homecoming celebration Sunday, Sept. 10. The Victors will sing at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Jodie Hendricks will speak at the 11 a.m. service. Lunch follows at noon with another Victors performance at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome.
