Bishop, Riner; brothers and sisters-in-law, James R. and Dolly Bishop, Riner, William J. and Frances Bishop, Orlando, Fla., Benny N. and Florence Bishop, Christiansburg, Basil G. and Peggy Bishop, Roanoke, Kenneth M. and Mary Bishop, Riner; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Arlene and James Paitsel, New Castle, Les and Kathleen Sutphin, Boydton, Jean and Bodie Huffman, New Castle; also several nieces and nephews. BOOTH, Michael Alan, 36, of Salem, formerly of Atlanta, Ga., went to be with his Lord on September 1, 1995 after a long and valiant fight against the Aids virus. He is preceded in death by his father, Pryor M. Booth. He is survived by his mother, Peggy Matz Booth; a very special brother, Tommy Booth and another brother, Robert Booth both of Roanoke. He leaves behind his long time companion, Kurtis Mealy of Atlanta Ga.; a very special and perhaps his closest and dearest friend, Wayne Hill of Atlanta, Ga.; a very special cousin, Ricky Matz of Atlanta, Ga.; another special cousin, Tana and her husband, Donald Orange of Atlanta, Ga., another very speical friend, Michael Tuck of Atlanta, Ga.; also many other friends in Atlanta and a very special doctor, Dr. Stephen Kager of Atlanta, Ga. who had a hug for him every time he went to see him. Also all of his special aunts, uncles and cousins and also a lot of nice people from Roanoke Memorial Hospice. Last but not least, his beloved St. Bernard puppy, Dolly Marie. Alan was a very special person and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 1995 at the John M. CANNADAY, Howard Berkley, 80, of 9107 Oakland Circle, Lynchburg, died Saturday, September 2, 1995, in Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Roanoke December 14, 1914, he was the son of the late Marks Henry Cannaday and Hallie Wingfield Cannaday. He was a member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg and a former member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. He was a graduate of Jefferson Senior High School, Class of 1933. Mr. Cannaday retired from the Engineering Department of the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company after 43 years of service. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He served in Europe as a member of the 63rd Infantry Division During World War II where he received two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the American Legion Post 16, a dedicated supporter of the Brookville High School Athletics and a member of the original Brookville Boosters Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley McFadden Cannaday; two sons, Marks Frederick Cannaday and Russell Hamner Cannaday. Surviving are two daughters, Martha C. Booker and Melinda Moore Cannaday; a son, Berkeley Madison Cannaday, all of Lynchburg; six grandchildren; also by a devoted friend, Josephine D. Becker of Roanoke. A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday 2 p.m. September 5, 1995, in Sherwood Memorial Park in Roanoke. EDWARDS, Evelyn Whitley, 79, of Christiansburg, died at her home Sunday, September 3, 1995 after an extended illness. She was born in Hertford County, N.C. on March 15, 1916 and was a graduate of Chowan College in Murfreesboro, N.C. Mrs. Edwards retired after a career as an Elementary School teacher in Columbus County, N.C. and in Christiansburg. She served in several membership roles in various clubs, civic and social groups and was a member of Main Street Baptist Church where she worked with young people and as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles R. Edwards; o ne daughter and son-in-law, Sandra E. and Gregory S. Rambo of Detroit, Mich.; one granddaughter and her husband, Amanda and Gareth R. Strope of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one grandson and his wife, John and Kathleen Rambo of Annapolis, Md.; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Miss Mary G. Whitley of Murfreesboro, N.C. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Main Street Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Charles Taylor and Rev. William E. Hungate with burial in Sunset Cemetery. IRVIN, Dorothy Miller, 78, of Wytheville, died Saturday, September 2, 1995 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burley Garland Irvin and her parents, Arthur Lloyd Miller Sr. and Mary Cassell Lindamood Miller. She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Teresa M. Irvin of Wytheville, Joan and Paul Plawin of Falls Church; one granddaughter, Jennifer Plawin Doyle of Centreville; one grandson, Paul Burley Plawin of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary M. and C. J. Dillon of Max Meadows; one brother, Arthur L. Miller of Wytheville; several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 4, 1995 at the West End Cemetery in Wytheville with the Rev. Bob Peterson officiating. JOHNSON, Russell Woodbury, of Roanoke, passed peacefully to his final glory on Saturday, September 2, 1995. Son of Russell Johnson of Ipswitch, Mass. and Laura Johnson of Nova Scotia (both deceased) he was born November 23, 1922 and raised in Hackensack, New Jersey. Graduating from Hackensack High School in 1941, he served with the 8th Air Force 401st Bomb Group in England as a bombardier. He married Frances C. Terhune, also of Hackensack, on September 7, 1946 and resided in Hackensack until 1979. He joined the Hackensack Police Department in 1950 where he earned the rank of Sgt. and worked in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for many years. He was recognized as an expert in fingerprint identification, publishing numerous articles on the subject. Following his retirement in 1978, he moved to Vinton, where he worked with Burns Security and volunteered in Roanoke Memorial Hospital's physical therapy department and the Vinton Public Library. Continuing his lifetime love for travel and art, he traveled the United States and Europe extensively and became an accomplished watercolorist by painting scenes from his years of travel. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Frances C. Johnson and their eight children, Edward R. Johnson of Sunnyvale, Calif., Catherine L. Johnson-Witte of Roanoke, Jean M. Kessler of Roebling, N.J., Russell P. Johnson of Greenville, N.Y., Adele F. Flannelly of Paramus, N.J., Barbara A. Corah of Englewood, Colo., Richard A. Johnson of Valley Lee, Md., Robert W. Johnson of Vinton; 17 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; brother of Eugene Johnson and Elizabeth Hayne, both deceased, he is survived by Adele Cella of Oradell, N.J.; Warren S. Johnson Sr. and Laura Hawken both of Lakewood, N.J. He was an active parishioner of St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church in Roanoke and a former parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Hackensack, N.J. Funeral services and interment will be held in Hackensack, N.J. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. There will be a memorial mass at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Roanoke at a later date. KOOISTRA, Genevieve Jones, 91, of Christiansburg, died Sunday, September 3, 1995, at Montgomery Manor in Christiansburg. She was the widow of John F. Kooistra, was a music teacher and a life long member of Sigma Alpha Iota, professional music fraternity. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Judi and Daniel J. Schneck of Christiansburg; one son, David John Kooistra, California; two granddaughters, Cynthia Schneck of Charlotte, N.C., Patricia Rowland and her husband, Geoffrey Rowland of Christiansburg. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. Leighton Culler. A private family graveside services will be held later in the day in Sunset Cemetery.

A reception in honor of Genevieve will be held at the church immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials made to the Music Fun d of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. Cremation arrangements were handled by Richardson-Horne.

MILLIRONS, Nina Shrader, 79, of Narrows, died Saturday, September 2, 1995, in a Wythe County Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shular Muncy Millirons. She was a member of Hales Chapel United Methodist Church, Narrows. She is survived by three sons, J.W. Millirons, Columbus, Ga., Shular Millirons, Laural, Md., Gerald Millirons of Pearisburg; three daughter, Carrie Pauley, Bland, Shelby Copeland, Roanoke, Emily Lambert, Narrows; two sisters, Virginia Black, Roanoke, Sadie Walker, York, Pa.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. MORRIS, Lenora Nash, 100, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, September 3, 1995. She was the widow of Leonard R. Morris, a former Roanoke City Police Officer. Mrs. Morris was a member of Villa Heights Baptist Church for 65 years. Surviving are her sons, James L. Morris, Roanoke, Samuel B. Morris, Moneta, Jack K. Morris, Roanoke; daughters, Mrs. Van R. (Hazel) Tucker, Roanoke, Mrs. M. C. (Cornelia Ann) Wise, Rockdale, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Howard B. Fraley, Roanoke. MURPHY, Mary M., 65, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, September 2, 1995 at her daughter's home after a lengthy stay at the hospital with cancer. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and retired from General Electric after 28 years of service. Surviving are her children, Barbara Fraser and husband Bob, Kansas, Steve Murphy and wife Jane, U.S. Navy, Mississippi, Carol Ferguson and husband Dean, Roanoke; grandchildren, Robert Young and wife Michelle, Sonya Cunningham Stevenson and husband Brian, Chris Murphy, Brett Fraser, Ryne Fraser, Ian Ferguson; great-grandson, Phillip Young. OSBORNE, L. Ernest, 97, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, September 1, 1995. Mr. Osborne was a longtime member of Westhampton Christian Church, a member of Lakeland Masonic Lodge #190, the Scottish Rite Choir and the Kazim Shrine Chanters. He was an Army veteran of WWI and was a retired dining car steward from Norfolk & Western Railway with over 40 years service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Aliff Osborne and is survived by a brothe r, Jack Osborne, Staunton. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel Tuesday, September 5, 1995 at 1:30 p.m. with Dr. Paul D. Matheny and Rev. Walter Bingham Jr. officiating. PARDUE, Cordrey, 7, of Annandale, died Monday, August 28, 1995. They were killed when the mini-van Norman was driving was struck by a train at an ungated railway crossing in Missouri as they were traveling to visit grandparents. Norman's wife, Lou Ann, and two daughters, Brittany 8, and Tiffany 4, survived the accident. Also surviving are two daughters, Beth and Melissa Dillehay; mother, Jaqueline Pardue; brother, Douglas L. Pardue; and maternal grandparents, Eldon and Patricia Steen. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 1995, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 8617 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, Va. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas. POLLARD, Elise Underwood, 90, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, September 2, 1995. She was the widow of the late J. Henry Pollard. Mrs. Pollard was born in Montvale, March 23, 1905 and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Cora Belle Underwood of Montvale. She had been a patient at the Carriage Hill Retirement Center for the past three years. Elise was a graduate of Montvale High School and National Business College. She retired from Gill Memorial Hospital as a medical records librarian. She lived in Vinton for many years and was very active in the community, especially Thrasher Memorial Methodist Church where she had been a member since 1934. She was a member of the choir and her late husband was Treasurer of the church for many years. Mrs. Pollard was Worthy Matron of Electra Eastern Star Chapter #33 of Roanoke during 1945-1946. She was the first Worth Matron of the Vinton Eastern Star Chapter #1367. When the chapter was first organized in 1950. Survivors include a sister and brother-ion-law, Vinnie Cosby and James Cosby of Towson, Md.; also several nieces and nephews; and the devoted Lucy Preston Circle #2 of Thrasher Church; and a host of wonderful friends and in-laws who were so loyal to her during her long illness. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 1995, from the Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wm. Anthony Layman and Dr. George W. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. POWELL, Melba Graham, 73, of Salem, passed away Sunday, September 3, 1995. She was a member of First Church of the Brethren. Surviving are her husband, Earl E. Powell; son and daughter-in-law, Clark E. and Pat E. Graham, Roanoke; goddaughter, Regina Jacobs, Shepherd Air Force Base, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, John D. and Helen Arrowood, Harrison, Ohio; sister-in-law, Sarah Cheatham, Roanoke; a number of nieces and nephews. WARREN, Sallie Christiana, 81, of Roanoke, a former resident of Athens, W.Va., died Sunday, September 2, 1995 in a Salem, Va. hospital. Born in Bluefield, W.Va. August 15, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Dallas Pierce and Callie George Mays. She was a retired teacher for the Mercer County School System with 49 years of service in several schools throughout the county, last teaching at Mercer Elementary School in Princeton, W.Va. She was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church in Athens where she attended the Rachel Myers Circle. She was a graduate of Athens High School and Concord College. She was a member of the National, West Virginia and Mercer County Education Associations. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority and the Bud & Blossom Garden Club. She was a member of the Concord College Alumni Association and was a past recipient of the ``Golden Alumni Award."" She was also a member of Athens Chapter #33, Order of the Eastern Star and the American Association of University Women. She was a strong supporter of the National and Mercer County Humane Societies. She had been a resident of Roanoke since 1991 moving there from Athens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, J. P. Mays and D. P. Mays. Survivors include her husband, Howard Edgar Warren of Roanoke; two daughters, Leeta Sink and her husband John Sink of Roanoke, with whom she made her home, and Debra Maas of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren, Sandra Sink of Roanoke and Lisa Eagle of Greenville, N.C.; one great-granddaughter, Erika Eagle; one brother, Alex Marion Mays of Princeton, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at the George W. Seaver Funeral Home Chapel in Princeton, W.Va. with W. Brent Sturm, O.S.L. officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery. WHITE, Blanche Hampton, 76, of Radford, died Sunday, September 3, 1995 in a Radford hospital. Mrs. White was a member of the First Baptist Church in Radford and a long time charter member of the Powers Memorial Baptist Church, Hopewell, and a retired employee of the Reynolds Metal Co. Surviving are her husband, Merrett T. White of Radford; a daughter, Patricia Burton of Radford; a brother, Vernon Hampton of Richmond; three sisters, Mildred Musselman of Richmond, Dolores Stanley of Sandston, and Audrey Portwood of Port Orange, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jason Burton and Melissa Burton both of Radford. A funeral service will be at 8 p. m. Tuesday, at the First Baptist Church, Radford, with Rev. Joe Burton and Rev. Kent Taylor officiating. WILLIS, Nellie Boyd, 95, of Roanoke, and formerly of Floyd, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 3, 1995. She was a longtime member of Brentwood Baptist Church. The widow of General Magruder Willis, was preceded in death by three children, Ruby Pacetti, Frank and Noah Willis. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lena Mitchell, Roanoke, Eva and Willie Aldridge, Virginia and Bura Aldridge all of Check; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert Willis, Oscar and Arlene Willis, Marvin and Betty Willis all of Roanoke; 32 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren. YOUNG, Carl McBerta, 86, of Lexington, died Saturday, September 2, 1995, at Shenandoah Valley Health Care Facility, Buena Vista. Born at Stuarts Draft December 1, 1908, he was the son of the late Frank and Bertie Brooks Fitzgerald. Mr. Young was a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church and owned and operated the Rockbridge Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Lexington. Upon his retirement he worked for First National Bank from 1971 to 1989. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Rice Young and daughter, Jean Anne Young Clark. Surviving are two granddaughters, Carol C. Dunlop, Willsborough, N.J., Lynn L. Guilfoyle, New York State; son-in-law, Yancey L. Clark, Danville, Ky.; five grandsons, Philip and Eric Yaccarino, Hillsborough, N.J., Brian Dunlop, Hillsborough, N.J., Leif and Scott Guilfoyle, Staten Island, N.Y. Burial will follow in High Bridge Presbyterian Cemetery, Natural Bridge. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Harrison Funeral Home.
