NewsFun will continue to offer locally oriented stories of interest to kids in grades 1-8. Also returning is Dear Kidsday, an advice column written by kids for kids; Miniforum, where kids write in and tell us their opinions in response to questions we ask; and So?!!, a hodgepodge of information we hope is useful and/or interesting to kids.
One of our more popular features, Teacher of the Week, also will return. Teachers are honored by nominations submitted by their pupils. The Science Museum of Western Virginia awards each Teacher of the Week a gift certificate for $25 to be spent at the museum's Teacher Resource Center. If you have a nomination for Teacher of the Week, write and tell us why you think your teacher should be chosen. Be sure to include your name, school and home telephone number.
NewsFun will continue to feature reviews submitted by you. We encourage you to send in not only book reviews, but reviews of video games, computer games, CDs and movies. Be sure to include a description of what you're reviewing along with your name, grade, school, telephone number, address and recent photograph.
On the cover of NewsFun you'll notice a new feature called Around Town. It's designed to give you a quick look at something going on around the valley that kids might enjoy.
As always, NewsFun is interested in hearing from you. If you have a story idea, or if something is going on at your school you think might be of interest to other kids, call Elizabeth Hock at 981-3244 or Nancy Gleiner at 981-3229.
To submit a nomination for Teacher of the Week, a review for publication or an answer for Miniforum, write to NewsFun, The Roanoke Times. P.O. Box 2491. Roanoke. 24010-2491.
