He was preceded in death by his father, William Burrell, Fincastle; two brothers, Clarence and Rudolph Burrell. He is survived by his wife, Marva McDade Burrell, Zanesville, Ohio; his mother, Lenora Burrell, Zanesville, Ohio; two sisters, Eleanor Foulks, Zanesville, Ohio, Myrtle Smith, Fincastle; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Service will be Saturday, 2 p.m., September 16, in the Lapsley Run Baptist Church. Burial in church cemetery with the Rev. Ulas Broady officiating.

FERGUSON, Jabe Showalter, (``Butch""), 33, of Rural Retreat, formerly of Narrows, died this past weekend. Butch was raised in Narrows, the beloved and only son of Jabe Showalter Jr. and Myrtle Rice Ferguson. A graduate of Narrows High School, where he was a valued member of the Green Wave athletic teams in football and all other sports. Butch was currently employed as a master welder at Dalton Enterprises in Rural Retreat. Butch is perhaps best remembered as a large, fun-loving, boyish man whose crooked mischievous grin was crowned by a flame of red hair. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents of Narrows, he is survived by his wife, Louise Grubb Ferguson, and a daughter, Kellie Nicole Ferguson, Rural Retreat; his sister, Kay F. Bechtel, Charlottesville, VA; his grandmother, Vernon Booth Ferguson, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 15, 1995, 2 p.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Rick Painter officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery. FIRKIN, Margaret Woody, 78, of Winding Water Dr., Moneta, died Thursday, September 14, 1995 in Virginia Baptist Hospital, after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Joshua Firkin. She is survived by one son, Kenneth R. Firkin, College Park, Md.; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Bill Keesee, Moneta; two sisters, Mrs. John W. Poe, Roanoke and Mrs. George Lipscomb and husband; a granddaughter and husband, Sherri and John Tombarge; two grandsons and wives, David and Susan Keesee, Neal and Julie Keesee; three great-granddaughters, Alisande, Brittany and Bonnie Tombarge; and one great-grandson, Samuel Keesee. PEERY, Dr. James McGuire, 80, of Cedar Bluff, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 1995 at his home following a long illness. Born in Tazewell, he was the son of the late Wade Hampton and Carrie McGuire Peery. He was a graduate of William and Mary College Class of 1935 and Duke Medical School Class of 1938. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II throughout the Pacific Theater, where he attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. Following the war he returned to Cedar Bluff and practiced medicine at the Mattie Williams Hospital and the Clinch Valley Clinic in Richlands and the Grundy Hospital in Grundy. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church and was a Jones Chapel Cemetery Trustee. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge #260 and Kazim Shrine Temple, Roanoke. He was a member of numerous civic and professional organizations and had been appointed by the Governor to the State Board of Medical Examiners, serving ten years, including a term as president. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Batchelder Peery. He is survived by his wife, Clara Batchelder Peery; two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Peery-Haslam, Washington, D.C. and Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth (``Peggy'') Phipps, Highland Springs; four sons, Dr. James M. Peery Jr., Lynchburg, Dr. William Wade Peery, Galax, David Robert Peery, Roanoke, Dr. John Steven Peery, Richmond; one brother, Robert C. Peery, Richmond; nine grandchildren.
