DUKES SQUANDER LEAD IN 30-24 LOSS

Kerry Joseph ran for two touchdowns, including the game winner, and passed for a third Saturday as McNeese State scored 24 points in the second half to defeat James Madison 30-24.

Joseph scored from 1 yard out with 6:31 to play as McNeese (3-0) completed its comeback from a 24-6 deficit at halftime.

The Cowboys were ranked No.1 among Division I-AA schools; James Madison (2-1) was ranked 6th.

Joseph ended the night much differently than it began. Quincy Waller intercepted a Joseph pass and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown less than two minutes into the game. John Coursey followed that with a 21-yard field goal and Kevin Jeter ran 29 yards for a touchdown to give the Dukes a 17-0 lead after one quarter.

Joseph found Terrence Davis on a 57-yard touchdown pass midway through the second period. The extra point failed.

Macey Brooks caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Mike Cawley for James Madison's final touchdown.

Henry Fields cut the Dukes' lead to 24-13 with a 4-yard run midway through the third period. Joseph ran 33 yards for a touchdown with 1:09 left in the third quarter, but his pass for a two-point conversion failed.
