ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICTAORS

The Consumer Price Index, the nation's prime measure of inflation, rose a scant 0.1 percent last month, to 152.9 points from 152.5 for July. It was 2.6 percent higher than August 1994's 149.0.

That means a collection of goods and services that cost $149 a year ago carried a price tag of $152.90 at the end of last month.

If the Department of Labor Statistics still used 1967 as a base year, instead of an average for 1982-84, the index figure would have stood at 458.0, meaning that goods and services that cost $100 in 1967 would have cost $458 at the end of August.
