WILKEY NOW AN ASSISTANT FOR BULLDOGS

Shannan Wilkey, who helped lead Radford's women's basketball team to four straight Big South Conference championships, has joined the coaching staff at North Carolina-Asheville as an assistant.

Wilkey, a former guard, ended her career with the Lady Highlanders in 1994, finishing as their third all-time leading scorer with 1,714 points. She was the most valuable player of the 1993 and 1994 conference tournaments.

Wilkey's will be working mainly with the team's guards.

Kate Irish's goal in the second overtime lifted Virginia Tech a 1-0 win over Radford in a women's soccer match at Dedmon Center Stadium. With less than 1 minute remaining in the second overtime, Irish scored from 22 yards away on the left. Hope Handley had six saves for Tech (2-4). Lexi Thomasson saved six shots for Radford (2-4).

At Ferrum, Mike Henning scored two goals as Randolph-Macon beat the Panthers 3-0 in a men's soccer game. Randolph-Macon is 5-3, Ferrum is 1-5.

Visiting Roanoke College scored three goals during a 2:38 span early in the second half to seal a 4-2 win over Lynchburg College. Meredith Arnott, Lisa Franzino, Julie Strothers and Amy Waldman all scored for the Maroons (5-2, 3-0 ODAC).

Rich Daughtridge and Mike Polhamus scored two goals apiece to lead VMI to a 4-2 win over St. Francis (Pa.) in Lexington.

VMI, raised its record to 3-4, visits Furman Saturday at 2 p.m.

In Bastion, W.Va., Ferrum's R.J. Weaver shot a 76, one stroke off the lead, for a third place finish in the Bluefield College Fall Classic. He led the Panthers to a third place finish as well. Barry Scott shot an eight over par 79 for the Panthers.

Bluefield won the 18-hole event, five strokes ahead of King College.
