NAVY BOMBERS CHEERED ON RETURN

The Navy fliers whose bombing missions over Bosnia have stemmed advances by Serbian forces returned home Thursday to the cheers of family and friends - and a bottle of champagne for each airman.

The 14 jets of the VF-41 Black Aces flew home from the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, making a formation pass over Oceana as about 100 relatives and friends - as well as Miss Virginia, Amber Medlin - waved U.S. flags and homemade greetings.

The NATO-directed air strikes - and the threat of more from the carrier USS America that replaced the Roosevelt earlier this month - convinced rebel Serbs to withdraw their heavy guns from around Sarajevo.
